Good Lord! It's $60 to eat at H&V ???

We ate there in 06 and refuse to go back even though we always go during free dining. :sad2: We won't eat there and it's free! The food and Disney's refusal to change the characters makes this a place I will continue to avoid in the near future.

What I really don't get about H&V is the breakfast. They charge $27 (from allears) for breakfast, while Tusker and CP (both of which are much better than H&V) is around $20.

At least the lunch and dinner prices are comparable to other WDW buffets.

I haven't eaten at any buffet on property that would warrant $35.99. We love 'Ohana and even that is hard for me to pay that much. I almost had a mental breakdown paying for Chef Mickey's dinner because all we ate were a piece of chicken and some pasta. DD loved the characters and it was worth it for her, but after she saw them, she was done and maybe had 2 bites to eat. Good thing she was 1.5 and free.

Disney's own website puts the cost at Hollywood & Vine dinner as "$36 to $59.99"

Not that I've ever seen any reports anywhere that they've actually charged $59.99. Nor do I know where they got that price range.

Any location that costs $36 or more will get the same designation, even if the cost of dinner is $36.01.

Just like a restaurant that costs $18 will be listed as "$15 to $35.99." The cost is nowhere near $35.99, but it still shows up that way on the listing.

This has led to a lot of confusion, even among the savvy folks on the DIS. I wish they'd change this, just to save us the time of calming fears.

So the question remains as to why H&V is listed this way if the price is $32.99. I can only assume that they're either accounting for tax and tip, or that the peak surcharge is in effect.

Odd to me how so many people love Chef Mickey's and hate H&V. The buffet food is pretty much of the same quality.

All-

The price for Hollywood and Vine is a whopping $37.59 (includes tax but not TIP) for a buffet. This is way over the top. They are charging everyone a "surcharge" for this during June - August 15th. Why? To me it's called gouging. Sorry, but this is a sore subject with me. I just cancelled my BOMA ADR because of this. Back in 2007 the price was approximately $26.99. Disney has gone off the deep end when it comes to dining. Guess what? We're going to SHula's instead. We got a $25.00 coupon from RESTAURANTS.com for alot of DTD restaurants. It's a great deal. We will be spending our money elsewhere. Thanks for listening to me rant! LOL!

I was going to say... $60 is more than I paid for the Fantasmic Package at the Brown Derby... granted HBD is not a buffet, but the food is a higher quality :lovestruc

agree, though Chef Mickey's was just a little bit more variety. And the characters at CM's are better, by a long shot. The H&V characters are kind of obscure unless you happen to have a little one that watches nothing by Playhouse Disney. A lot of people there when we were there also had no idea who those characters are. One woman told me the one character's show wasn't even on anymore:confused3

What got me was Crystal Palace was about $5.00 per adult less than H&V for breakfast...with about twice the variety & far more quality ingredients being offered. Better characters, too. We went to CP on a Saturday, and H&V on a Sunday, so had a great comparison opportunity. There was nothing special about H & V food choices-no reason for the higher price...very, very bland. A perfect example: H & V offered the little pre-packaged Yoplait yogurt (2 kinds) as the yogurt choice. Crystal Palace had two large (very large) bowls of fresh yogurt --one was strawberry & full of fruit. The other was honey-vanilla. Both were very flavorful - to the point we wondered if they made the flavored yogurt on-site there. Then there were 1/2 dozen small bowls of toppings & mix-ins for the yogurt like granola, dry fruit, nuts, etc. to make your own fancy yogurt parfait. Everything on the buffet had that kind of big difference - and CP always had the advantage. Yet H&V was the more expensive...

We ate there for the character lunch back in Feb & I think it was around 32.00 something. It was good but not 32.00 good. I think we are going to stick to the character breakfasts unless we are on the dinning plan.

It's not about the price of the food nor its quality. It's the location of the food in spite of the quality. Secondly, it's about the speed of getting the food and the location. There's always the food court back at the resort. Want another bus ride?

We actually liked H & V. Not $60 or even $35 liked, but it was fine. Still though I dont see how this is some how hands down the reason prepaying for the dining plan makes sense if you are just getting Golden Corral level food anyway (We thought it was much, well maybe not much, but better than Golden Corral).

Still shocking that for a buffet they can command close to $40 pp. Where is the ceiling?

Yep 35. per person is correct. Disney is going to out price most folks from going.

Or encourage more guests to stay at Disney so they can get the dining plan. Stay at Disney, eat at Disney, maybe not do that side trip to Universal to check out Harry Potter. With the dining plan so popular Disney can charge what it wants and still fill restaurants.

I think it's about $35 per adult, I don't know what the child price is. The buffet ranges on the website usually start with the child's pricing.

For $35 I can go up to California Grill and have sushi.

Actually, the range isn't tied to any particular price point - they just have several brackets, basically one, two, or three "$", and whatever bracket the "typical" price falls into (for adults, presumably), that's the category for that restaurant, and the price range listed is for the bracket itself.

This "feature" of the WDW dining site causes a great deal of confusion - that becomes more clear all the time. They would do better simply showing the "$", "$$", or "$$$", as an active link, and clicking on it gives a mini-pop-up window saying something like "typical prices for a $$ restaurant are $15-$35.99 - see restaurant menu for more detailed pricing."

And THAT is why we only do the DDP. It is SO worth it.:thumbsup2 For $42 per person a day, I can NEVER finish all the food and always take the dessert to our resort for a snack~! ;)

DDP all the way!!! I giggle to myself when I hear families at the next table complain about the prices... price? what price?!? lol
