Good Deal on Trip Insurance with AAA Disney Package

I don't know if this is a universal or regional thing (we're in Central PA), but we just got a pretty good deal on trip insurance when we booked our Disney trip with AAA. We got coverage through Allianz for $59 per adult (kids were free)...JetBlue offered the same insurance at $94! So for the two of us adults, that's a $70 saving! Here's hoping this info is useful!

If I remember right, the insurance that AAA is better than the one offered if you book direct thru Disney. When we drove down there a few yrs ago, the AAA travel insurance would have covered our trips there and back, whereas the one thru Disney wouldn't have.

Under the policy we got through AAA, all flights are covered in the event of illness, immediate family member illness, weather/mechanical issues that delay travel by a day or more, and/or life-altering circumstances. Simply choosing to cancel however, is not covered. As for accommodations/tickets, the policy covers each family member up to around $640 for the same reasons. The policy also extends emergency medical coverage. Most sources agree that Disney's insurance is pretty bare bones, so if you book directly through them...you'll get a better insurance value elsewhere, even if you pay more.

To build upon my earlier reply, I did have to use the AAA travel insurance about 6 years ago. We were at Epcot one evening, I was walking down the Mexico steps and missed the last two. Was NOT paying attention. Ended up in the ER that night with a sprained ankle on one side and a sprained forefoot on the other! It was miserable. In a w/c and scooter the rest of our trip.

Had to pay the normal $100 co-pay for the ER visit but after that I had no out of pocket expenses. Once my medical picked up their share, the travel insurance company took care of the rest of it! If I recall, they were very good to work with as well. It was a pretty good sized bill, when you factor in the actual cost of just the ER visit, plus x-rays.
