Good Coffeemaker

Hi

Looking to purchase a new coffeemaker. I have a Gevalia one that I got through their coffee club. However, I am tired of having lukewarm coffee and would like to invest in a new coffeemaker.

I really am a tea drinker, but lately I like a good cup of coffee once in awhile. So any recommendations, I don't need it to grind beans or any really fancy features, willing to spend about $100 or so.

Any suggestions?

bunn pour o matic have had my for 10 years water is keep heated and takes less then 3 mins to make full pot of coffee i love that machine about 90 dollars if not on sale

I love my bunn also. That two minute brew time in the morning is awesome.

If you do go this route, I would invest in a timer if you are morning only drinker. We are. The machine keeps water at brewing temp 24/7. This means a larger electric bill. We bought the timer, it turns the machine on at 4:30 a.m. and goes off at 10 a.m. I think I figured that this unit was costing me $80/month to run, I think now I'm under $20/mo.

we got a kuerig and now we are spoiled rotten..makes coffee ot tea in 300 seconds..1 cup at a time..we got ours for right at 100.00..totally worth it..in fact we even take it to disney with us..

Keurig lover here also. DH is so in love with it that I think he would grab it if we had a house fire when I grabbed the dogs!

I also have a Bunn on a timer. IIRC my Bunn pulls about 60-watts so that's like leaving a light on 24/7.

That being said, in the OP's case maybe one of the small Keurigs might be a better choice for the OP since she doesn't drink coffee that often. It might be ideal if she can get the Keurig to also just dispense hot water for her tea.

Oh my! My electric usage didn't change at all when I got my Bunn. My entire electric bill is sometimes less than $50/month for our entire house in the fall and spring. I use my coffee maker every morning.

When I last researched it, the Bunn not in use is 800 watts. When you are brewing and have the plate on it's around 950 watts.

When I first looked into it, we lived in Michigan. I believe the rate was higher there than here, so my savings have varied since moving.

There is a drop down to choose your appliances. The default is at .15c, I think when we lived in MI it was 11 or 12 and now in IN I believe it to be around 7 or 8. Again, this was a long time ago when I did the research and I know that my bill did go down a lot. Also depends on whether you are on a load or tier basis, I know here we are tiered, don't remember on MI.


As for the Keurig, we have friends that bought it. She loves it, swears she is not dropping $5/day at Starbucks anymore because of it. I like straight black coffee, no need for anything other than my regular coffee pot.

Could also just buy a coffee press and make as needed. Definitely would have a hot cup of coffee.

I don't use K-cups, I use my own coffee with the attachment that you buy separate. K-cups are very convenient but I just love my own coffee. It only takes seconds to have a steaming cup of delicious HOT coffee.

They are a bit pricey, but the Capresso makers with the thermal carafes do a great job at brewing at the "proper" temperature. We have been using one for several years now and it still makes piping hot coffee.

DH bought a french press on Amazon for about $20.00 and said he'll never go back to making pots of coffee because the flavor is way better when the coffee is pressed from a filter and grinding the beans fresh. The downside is he has to boil his water in a teapot instead of just making a pot, but he said it is so worth it.

I tried talking him into a Keurig, but he said that is just like instant coffee and not the real bean! LOL

It is called My K cup and you can get it off the Keurig site and I have seen it at Target and Walmart, also Bed Bath and Beyond. I have one, I use it along with the cups. My inlaws a certain brand of local coffee that doesn't come in cup form, so I bought it for them. Works fine, bit of a pain to clean, but not horrible .

Y'all are selling me on the Keurig! It's funny -- my friend was saying the other day that her 6-year old was in love with the K that was at a vacation home they visited. It was his favorite part of the vacation!

When she got home, she saw one on sale, plus she had some store discount coupon -- so she got him it for his birthday! She hurried to add she'd gotten him some toys, too, but it just struck me as funny that a 7yo was getting a coffee maker (for hot chocolate) for his birthday.

Keurig!!! I LOVE mine. I am so lazy in the mornings before I have my coffee- the Keurig was the perfect solution for me. It is set to come on in the morning and heat up the water, all I have to do it pop in the K-cup.

It brews fast and hot.

I listened to everyone rave about their Keurig, so finally caved and bought one this year. I have yet to have a cup of coffee that I like. I don't get it! I made maybe 50 cups of coffee with my Keurig B60 Special Edition before the water pump went out on it. Yes, Keurig was great about replacing it, I'm sure because they've had sooo many problems with the B60's pumps going out. They had me a new machine here in two days. Now I only use filtered water through it, but I hate the thing. I did buy the Kcup reusable filter and guess I should start using my own brand of coffee and hopefully someday I will get a cup of coffee that I like again.

I tried it with my (former) regular coffee and I didn't like it, so it's back to K-cups for me. I like the Green Mountain and/or Tulley's Kona Blend, Coffee People Donut Shop, Van Houten French Vanilla, and about a gazillion others. I like most anything except the flavored coffees (like hazelnut, etc.). Went to BB&B the other night-they have an entire wall, floor to ceiling, of nothing but K-cups! Wow! I was in heaven.
