Good Coffee

I've got a question about the ship's coffee. I had asked earlier if the coffee was pretty good and did get some replies. I have a different question. I was able to view the beverage station from pictures somebody posted with their trip report. I saw that the coffee was Nescafe. I have had that same coffee while staying at All Star Sports. It has the taste of instant coffee. Does anyone know whether the buffet/restaurants as well as room service serve the same coffee or is it a different brand? I have read where people bring their own alcohol, beer, soda and water on board. I just want to make sure I can have a good cup of coffee in the morning. I figured somebody on this board must be as picky as I am about coffee.

And that Nescafe is NASTY!

I hope someone answers your query soon because we sail on Thursday.

The only decent coffee onboard is at Palo. For that matter, the only decent orange juice onboard is at Palo.

Ok, does this mean we should add a coffee maker to our packing list? Has anyone done this? We got to start our mornings off with a GOOD cup of coffee.

:earsboy: :earsgirl: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I do not remember a problem with the coffee??

But I am thinking it is maybe how you take your coffee...

I take lots of cream and sugar so even motor oil would taste okay...

I would think those who take their coffee black will really know if it was a good or bad cup of coffee.

But honestly, I had coffee in the morning... during the day from the beverage station and after dinner and it was fine!

Depends on how much of a coffee snob you are. If you're the type who will pass up a cup of convenience store coffee if it's the only coffee around to get a better cup at Starbucks, then yes, you'll want to bring your own.
Has anyone done this?
Yes, serious coffee snobs have done this.

(No offense to serious coffee snobs; I'm a moderate coffee snob myself.)

We live in Starbuck's country and I have become a coffee snob. Waking up with liquid concentrate Nescafe ain't gonna make it for our family. I got a four cup pot at Target, bought my bags of Starbuck's (planning on decaf to go with my nighttime room service desserts) and it is all packed and ready to go. The carafe is neatly nestled in our carry on, the rest is packed and padded in our suitcase. (and thanks to this board, I didn't forget the extension cord;) )

I am a bit of a coffee drinker. I don't drink any of those "canned or instant" coffees at home. Only fresh ground. The coffee on the Dec. 1 2002 Wonder was good at the buffett. There were no juice stations on that sailing, it was the first after the cancelled Magic. I do remember that the coffee on the Feb 2000 sailng wasn't as good at the "juice stations".

My wife is a coffee snob! and yes she admits it! When we travel she has to stop for her black Tim Hortons coffee. Very few others compare to her. However, when we went on our land and sea last May, she never really complained. She drank what was available. She did mention a couple of times how she missed her Timmy's fix. But she has said you can't get everything at Disney World. I truly believe all the other pro's of being on board the Disney ships out weigh the con's of poor coffee. Think of it as a reason to go home, even though you know you would probably give coffee up or at the least learn to except that less liked brew just to stay on board! Only my opinion! Maybe one day pixie dust will change the coffee on board so that the coffee snobs can get their fixes on the DCL. Happy Sailing!! :smooth:

Is the coffee drinkable?......Yes. But that's about it. One thing I regret is not packing is a small coffee maker.

At home I drink either Peet's or Starbuck's but in a pinch I can drink glorified mud as long as it contains caffeine. However, by the middle of a 7 day cruise, boy I wish I had brought my own.

Also, when at Palo's I specifically asked if the coffee was made special for Palo's and was told it was the same as the rest of the ship. I could not bear to end such a great meal with that and had an espresso instead. I hate to think I was given bad info by my perfect server, Dalibor.:(

Ok, so I'm a coffee snob. I can live with that but do I have to bring the orange tree too?

If there is one thing missing on DCL, it's good coffee. They ought to do something like RCCL with a gourmet coffee place. I would have loved to get a good cappucino somewhere during the morning or afternoon hours. Instead, I brought my own bottle of Bailey's Irish Creme and just added that to the coffee station coffee. Not ideal, but it sufficed.

If you really need the good stuff try getting a small 2 or 4 cup french press coffee carafe. Then use the hot water available on deck 9 and your own pre-ground coffee. This would take up less room in your bag.

Hmm no good coffee, no good beer.

I may need an extra bag just for viital fluids.

I went thru coffee withdrawals!

That Nescafe, YUCK:tongue: :(

You would think with all the money you spend, you would be able to get a decent cup of coffee!

Well, let's just say I may have to leave all of our vital medications behind if I have to, to make room to bring a little coffeemaker and some Gevalia!!! :p Gotta have my caffeine fix you know.

PS: I do not live in Starbucks country, but the cup I tried at the mall the other day? Well, I just wondered what all the raves were about? I guess every coffee snob has their own tastes!!!!

The coffee onboard is not drinkable...if you are a Timmy's or Starbuck's hound, don't even bother...the only respite we got from the nasty nescafe was when we could score a cappucino once and a while.....
I thought about the coffe maker thing, but are we allowed?
I thought they might object as it could pose a fire hazard onboard...notice no irons in cabins? Only in laundries, and fitted with fail safe timers....fire is a huge concern on vessels such as the Magic....so then I had the Bodum idea as well...but...will that be allowed through?.I guess there aren't any stainless steel Bodums, are there!?lol I brought 2 boxes of Chai mix last time, but couldn't be bothered trying to find steamed milk! Oh yeah baby, 100% caffeine snob!! :smooth:

I know Tim Horton's are a big thing in Canada... kinda' like Dunkin Donuts in New England. I actually ate at a Tim Horton's in Thunder Bay last Summer, but it didn't occur to me to try the coffee. Pity!

Good point about the fire hazard. If I have to take the coffee maker to the laundry room, so be it . . . we all have our little addictions: "Hi, my name is Tomi and I'm a coffee snob" :jester:

I love great coffee and sorry if I offend you but for me Starbucks is not good coffee, give me my Gevalia! Now my husband and I drank what was on the Magic, it is not instant but it is not Gevalia. As far as bringing your own pot, I would think that would fall right in with irons and steamers. If you leave it on a fire could happen and at sea fire is the biggest fear. You can try it and if they don't say anything to you post it on the board. What I really missed was my flavored coffee. Kathy
