I am in need of a good coffee maker. I don't make coffee everyday, usually go to Dunkin Donuts! But I want to get a new one for the times we have company. I had a Krups, got it when we got married 13 yrs. ago, but it died. Just wondering what's new out there, anyone have those single serving types with the pods?

I bought a new one last week at Walmart, it is a Mr. coffee, I guess one of their high end models, the IS series.

It has some options others didn't, It keeps tract of how long since the coffee was brewed (good in an office maybe :confused3), it has a cleaning cycle, it is programmable to brew at later time,it has a brew strength option (strong vs regular). You can also changed the warming temp and it had a water filter (that you change the insert every month). You can also buy these filters separately and maybe use them in any MR. Coffee unit?

It was about $38 at Walmart, I saw it advertised on sale at Penney's for about $48. I also bought a permanent filter (not a mr. Coffee one but it fits at Walmart for about $5 since the user manual recommended it for better tasting coffee.

We have a Krups that we got for our wedding a little over 2 years ago. I hope it lasts a while longer! It was around $100.

It has a thrmal carrafe that I like (as opposed to the glass) because the coffee stays warm and not reheated (yuck!).

While I don't drink it (I must be the only person in the US that doesn't like coffee!), my husband loves his in the AM, and for Xmas last year I bought him a Black & Decker Home Cafe at Target that he really likes. I can buy the pods at the grocery, and he likes the French Vanilla - also he usually uses the Capuccino on the weekends.

Since you brew a fresh cup with each pod, if you want to serve a lot of people you'd probably want to buy a regular coffeemaker or you'll be standing there brewing one cup at a time over and over! He always used a "regular" before with a therma cafe and really liked that too, but we threw a lot of coffee away since I didn't help drink it, and I thought to try the single cup maker this time. I think the pods are probably a more expensive way to go, but there's no waste either :confused3

It might help you to look at the Consumer Reports ratings info (listed best to worst):

Have you tried playing around with differant amounts of cream and sugar? And types of creamer? Carnation liquid creamer tastes differant than half and half, and some people like it with milk (and some only like it with skim, 2% or whole! Talk about fussy!). I love coffe, but I have to have cream and sugar, I can't drink it black! I feel bad for you, I'd be :faint: without my morning :coffee:

No, you're not alone, my sister hates coffee, including the smell. She drinks diet coke for her caffeine in the morning (don't ask me how, just the thought of it bothers me, but then again she feels the same about my morning coffee)!

For single serve I have the Senseo, which I love. It's great in the morning for me to fill my travel mug on the way out the door and for an evening cup of decaf with SO is not in the mood for coffee.

For company I have a Braun, have had it for years (somewhere between 12 and 14) and used it daily until we got the Senseo two months ago.

After going through a new pot every 6 months for a while, I currently have a Cuisinart and am finally content. Previously I've tried Mr. Coffees, Krupp's, Black and Deckers, Melitta's, Braun's, and even a percolator. I was on an expensive quest for the perfect cup at home.

My favorite WAS the Melitta grind and brew. I liked it so much I bought three. Dang thing kept breaking on me.

Now when this Cuisinart goes (I use it at least two times a day, every day), I will get the same one again. But I've had this one for a couple of years and it's still fine. Haven't even broken the carafe yet this time. (I am so stupid to say that. I should know better....)

I like only freshly brewed, and I like to put the carafe in the dishwasher, so don't use the thermal carafe kinds.

Amazon reviews are very helpful. Good luck!

I just got this Black & Decker 'Brew 'N Go" Coffee maker. It goes on sale at Rite Aid every couple of months for about $10.

It's perfect for single serving. It heats up the water to the right temperature, which is important for brewing. If you need to make more than one cup, the water heats so quickly, it wouldn't take any longer than it would take to wait in line at Starbucks for each individual cup.

What I like about it is that it does NOT use those coffee pods, so I can use my favorite coffee & brew it extra strong - which is how I drink it. :thumbsup2 It does have one of those permanent filter baskets, but as I had leftover paper filters, I actually prefer using a paper filter as I can easily lift out the filter for cleaning. The wet grounds stick tto the permanent filter, otherwise. :p

From the reviews I read on various coffee pod machines, you need to be careful to get a machine with the right amount of pressure to force the water through the coffee, and some machines do not heat the water to the right temperature so the coffee tastes rather weak. Plus the pods can get expensive. You have to make sure you get pods that fit your particular maker - one pod does not fit all - and some models, you are stuck with the coffee they offer, not your own favorite brand.

Go for the Bunn. I love my bunn, not the same model as above but I get a fresh pot of coffee in under 3 minutes, LOVE IT!!!
