Good, but cheap reading glasses

Sadly, it seems I've come to that age when I require reading glasses. OK, I have for a while but have been in denial.
I slipped on a pair at CVS and wow--what a difference. Then, I looked at the price $40. Surely, they must be a little less expensive somewhere else.

I'm going to my eye dr. in a couple of weeks and if he advises an Rx pair, I'll splurge for those. For now, I'd like to have something to get by.

I got a pack of 3 or 4 at Costco that are cute and the quality is really good. It was about $18 for the set.

If the eye doctor also has a glasses shop on site he will always advise that you need to buy them from him for some ridiculous price. Do you currently wear glasses for distance viewing? they may advise you get bi-focals, which are quite expensive.

My mom buys them at the dollar store. She must own thirty pairs, she keeps them all over the house, her various purses and in the car.

I'm really surprised to hear the dollar store has them.

Luckily, my opthamoligist is really good to just me my Rx and not even mention his shop. It must not really be "his" shop.
I only wear glasses when I can't wear a contact lens. I only have vision in one eye, so they won't be able to use that trick of different strength lenses for each eye. I just read about it, not sure how that works anyway.

It will be great to have reading glasses, though, so I don't have to keep asking the kids to read small print for me.

I hate getting old. I just have to keep young at heart.

LOL, I knew I was getting older when I was willing to pay double the price for the large print of a book....and I STILL put on reading glasses for less eye strain!

When did THAT happen? Overnight I think!

Walmart has some I really like. They are plastic (not wire) very light and come in a little foam case that is either stripes or leopard print.
They are about 7$
The brand name is zoom expressions

I have gotten two pair at the local Michael's craft store, They are $2.99 a pair and start at +1.25 strength. There are several different designs (dots,stripes,plaids etc) available. You might want to check it out.

My eye doctor says the same thing...get yourself a cheap pair of "cheaters" at the Walmart or Dollar Store. They're just magnifying glasses for your face. Gotta love him! He really isn't out to see how much he can drain from his patients.

(But he's also the same guy that told me I'm "no spring chicken anymore." Good thing that he's a friend or I might take that the wrong way! )

I'd recommend Walmart for now. After you get a prescription you might try your local mall. I found a place at mine where I got 2 pair of prescription readers for $49.00. It really does make a HUGE difference if your readers have a prescription if you need one!

At their price, I buy several pairs and keep in my purse, at home, near the computer etc.

I also vote for the Dollar Store. They also have them at the Christmas Tree Shop and they come in cute containers that you can throw in your purse or glove compartment and they won't get scratched. I believe that they are only $3.99.

I get them from Michaels or BigLots. Both have a variety of strengths. You'll have to test which works best for you. I have them all over the house and if they break, no big deal. Most of them cost $1-3.

If you can hold out until Black Friday, Walgreen's always has their Foster Grant readers on sale for buy 1, get 2 free. So for the past 2 years I've gotten 3 pairs for about $10. They come in all sorts of strengths and they're pretty durable and cute.

I generally buy mine at Dollar Tree. I buy 5 or 6 pair at a time and leave them in convenient places (my desk at work, by my computer at home, in the car, etc.

I also get them at Dollar General for $5-$6. I think those may be a little better quality (but not significantly).

I've also bought the 3 pack at Wal-Mart (less than $10), and they were fine.

Dollar Tree has them in all prescrptions...for a dollar. Don't know how good they are, but I think thy're worth a try for a dollar...check them out.

I buy DH's at BJ's. 3 pack for $19.00. I also buy some $1.50 dollar store glasses but their frames are not that good. They break and bend. DH is better with the BJ's readers.

I have bought my reading glasses for the past several years at the supermarket and also the dollar store. However, I recently purchased a pair from QVC that I was very happy with. They cost more than my others but I felt the quality was better These were made by Hillman Optical. Marie
