My lands end shirts have held up great! If you have a sears - they have a lands end section so you can try things on. Their website is always have 40% off sales too. I used to be a huge jcrew customer but their shirts have become thinner and thinner and just don't last in the wash over the years.
I wear plus sizes and I shop a lot at Belk. I like Alfred Dunner and Ruby Road the most. Stopped shopping at Kohl's. I don't care for the direction they are heading.
I really like LL Bean tops. For short and long sleeve tshirts their pima ones are really nice. And very soft. And decent thickness, not the shub (?) see-through stuff you find in stores these days.
