I'm assuming ya like fantasy, so if you don't mind comedy (and it's really well written comedy!) I'd give Terry Pratchett's Discworld a try. There are about thirty-odd books, but they're not all completely dependent on each other. I'd start at the beginning, with 'The Colour of Magic' and 'The Light Fantastic', and then there are different series within the series about different characters to follow. For example, there are books about this wizard Rincewind and his adventures and they all more or less line up, and then there are books about some witches tha connect (I've never read these, so I don't know much about them) and there are books about the city Watch (which is the police department, essentially but these are all pretty much in chronological order, though I read them out of order by mistake and didn't suffer to badly; they're pretty self-explanatory once you've got the basic idea). The Rincewind and Watch books are what my library has so I'm most familiar with them, but I know there are also books about Death, Vampires, and some other characters I can't quite remember that are probably also very good. Death, in particular, is an amusing character. The series is generally awesome and hilarious, and they're loads of fun to read.
I'd also recommend this one fantasy series by an authoress who's name escapes me, but all the books' names are [Verb]-ing With Dragons. I think one of them was 'Dealing With Dragons'. That was a good read, iirc. Fun, at least.
Oh, and 'The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency' series! I'm just starting on that one but it's *excellent* so far. Try that one, too. =)
