Good area hotels in Birmingham?

I'm coming to Birmingham for the Jonas Bros concert in August along with 4 others Moms and their girls and was wondering a safe area hotel for us. Someone suggested a Holiday Inn Express in Pelham by the Galleria and close to an ice skating rink. We plan on staying 2 nights to go shopping, ice skating and of course eating out. Do you know if that is a good area for us. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Just really wanted to stay somewheres safe.

I am not familiar with that exact hotel but Pelham is a safe part of town. You will have about a 20-30 min ride to the BJCC where the concert will be.

Before I booked in Pelham I would be sure the check Pelhams open rink time for skating just to ensure you will have a chance to skate. They have several hockey teams there so it isn't always open to the publice for skating.

Thanks for your quick response. I will check on the times for ice skating. I'm hoping we get to skate. The last time I tried ice skating I was 6 years old and was not good at all. My Mom had to come get me in the rink. We are traveling from Ms so we do not know much about Bham. I know we want to go to the galleria and eat at PF Changs. Have fun at the concert.

A little closer in is Mountain Brook, there is a nice Drury Inn there, free full breakfast, free hour of long distance daily, free internet, close to the Summit shopping/dining/entertainment complex (there is a PF CHang there, along with a CHeesecake Factory). Rates are generally reasonable and the rooms are usually pretty nice.

Oh yeah, it's the one on Grand View Parkway
