I was going to take the train to fla ( got a flight back) the train would cost us 199. (me and my 2 children). I just saw airtran had $49 pp but its out of philedelphia. ( i'm in NY) I would have to rent a car here to take there. I would still need to hire a taxi form here to get to the train.
it seems like alot of work but its drive and then a flight vs a 23 hr train ride.
I ttok the train last dec.didn't love it. i couldn't sleep. I didn't hate it which is why for the price I would do it again.
The kids liked it.
ok hopefully i made my point.. so i'm ready for your opinions.
(BTW I'm taking delta home)

How far are you from the airport. Do not forget to figure gas and parking.

Fly. Definitely. Especially if you really didn't care for the train, that a long time to be stuck on it!

the airport is 2hrs away. I'll have gas but prop not parking as I would be returning the rental car. I think the car service cost me $80 so renting the car is def cheaper.
the flight is at night but since we are flying I don't know if its a big deal. its due to arrive in orlando at about 10 pm.
thanks for the opinions. I can always count on the people here for good advice.

I am scared to death of flying (but my good friend xanax nd I have an arrangement) and I would rather fly than take a 23 hour train ride, with kids no less. It is also cheaper too? No brainer for me and xanax!

Pay no attention to the fact that I assign human qualities to my drugs!

Have your kids flown? Mine love it except for the descent, which can be helped with Sweet Oil in the ears or benedryl an hour before you land (if they allow it on the flight). But what I am saying is that it can be an adventure for them to fly.

I'm not sure when you're going but did you try airtran out of white plains ny? Might be a little bit closer. But I would definately fly. Besides prices how about getting there a whole lot sooner and better rested.

Double check the rental car rates of returning the car to a different state. I live in NJ and thought I would rent a car one way to Philadelphia. The cost of a one way rental was very high.

where exactly (not street address, county or town) do you live? it might be cheaper to fly out of islip or westchester or another city other than philly... also where are you flying back in to and how are you getting home from the airport?

I would fly. Did you look into NJTransit or the train into PHL. I think that you can go to Trenton on the train and take the River Line into Philadelphia. It would only be $20 something to Trenton and a couple dollars on the River line. Kind of a pain but cheap. Good luck.

i already found out budget will let me rent right by my house and return to the philly airport. i tried all the airports in my area (i'm in rockland) and they were no where near the cost. also don't forget I will need to hire car service to the airport so the cost of the rental car is about the same.
I am flying home on delta to a local airport.
I decided to fly for all the positive reasons. like I said, i didn't love the train and was exhusted and couldn't wait till I got in a shower.
I am 2 1/2hrs from the airport so its not that far. The cost of the plane came out cheaper then the train. It will be another adventure to add to our traveling adventures.
thanks for all your advice.
2 things left to do
1. find hotel by airport for the 1st night
2 get rental car.

Do the easy thing and just book the airline. You wont have to sit on a train as long and you get to disney faster to enjoy the magic. You also wont have to worry about transportation to and from the orlando airport if you book the magical express. When I left for Disney last time the airport is an hr away from me, so we booked a room that was close to the airport that had a shuttle and had someone drive us there the night before.
