:grouphug: Could someone help with DH's birthday?! :scratchin

We've got our next trip scheduled for Sept. 24 - Oct. 1. DH's birthday is this month. For his birthday, I want to give him some type of golf experience while on vacation. He has never golfed at Disney. For those golf enthusiasts out there (and those who have golfed in Orlando):

1. Would you recommend one of the Disney courses, or some other local course?

2. Assuming the cost is the same, would you prefer a short (30 min.) lesson with a pro, or a full round of golf?

3. If I go with a round on a Disney course, which would you recommend?

4. What are your recommendations for courses other than the Disney courses?

5. Are there gift certificates available for Disney golf? If so, should I call the pro shop at one of the courses?

Thanks ahead for any info! :

I would like to add another question to this golf thread. We are going July 2006 to celebrate younger DSs HS graduation. He is an avid golfer, on the HS golf team, etc., so his grad gift will be to golf at the WDW golf courses, which he has been wanting to do. So I would also be interested to the answers to EEyore's Girl, as well as asking another:

Is it difficult to get tee time in the later afternoon, when the prices are reduced - I notice on the WDW golf website that you can't reserve this time in advance. It is a significant savings, but may not be worth it if they can't fit him in. I'm also toying with the idea of buying an AP, as it reduces the golf fees during the regular hours by I believe 30%. Only problem is it'll be so hot in July, I doubt my DH will want to be out there golfing with Jeff until later in the day.

I asked about Golf in a few other threads, I liked these responses...

Go to www.ezlinks.com Several Orlando courses offer tee time specials.

Hi..send him to Ridgewood Lakes, Legends, Kings Ridge, and if he is willing to drive 55 minutes, best deal around is Deer Island up by Mt. Dora...great course on a island and probably less than 40 bucks....the other 3 will be about 25-30 minutes tops from Disney...

I live in Legends, and hear great things about the course there. (I don't play) With cart rental it's under $50 regardless of when you play, rates can go as low as $30 or so.

They had PGA tournament there in early February.

It's about a half hour drive from WDW, very easy to get to.

Anne

Orange Lake Country Club was reasonable (under $60 for a championship course), 10 minutes from Disney...

but twilight rates (after 1 or 2) at the Disney or any area courses are very reasonable.

Lot's or competition and prices are good in most cases. I wouldn't worry. It all depends where you are staying.

Thanks for all the responses! Keep them coming!! :)

Thank you, eeyore45. We won't have access to a car while we are there, so we are looking specifically at the WDW golf courses.

I am especially concerned about him being able to play with the twilight rate - not so much for the rate, but for the time of day. My family are all redheads with the typical pale Irish skin - and they really feel the heat.
