Golf Courses

I have been to Disney several times in the past, and I am taking my husband (28) on only his second trip to Disney. Anyway as part of the deal this time, I have promised him at least one round of golf on Disney property. Any opinions on courses (the good, the bad)?

My DH, mom & dad play almost every time they go. In fact, sometimes that's all my dad does when he goes to Disney. They tend to be a little pricey (if you have a Disney Chase Visa, see if there are any discounts going on while you'll be there) and DH says the grass isn't like here in the midwest, so it affects his game somewhat.

If you're staying on property and don't have a car, the concierge will arrange for a free taxi ride to the course.

The Magnolia course is home to a PGA tournament every October in which Tiger and many other big names play, so that could add some excitement to playing at that one.

We have played a few times, Palm and Magnolia, both terrific courses and a couple of visits ago, my wife and I played Osprey Ridge, her first time playing at Disney. We play after 3pm, that twilight rates, which tend to be cheaper then the rest of the day but you have to hurry to get your 18 holes in. Grass is alot different than home, especially the rough so bring plenty of balls, it tend to gobble the ball right up. All in all, even for the stiff greens fees, the courses are beautiful and well kept, enjoy your round, plus while on the Osprey course, we encounter alot of different animal life, plenty of deer and some turkeys.

Disney is a great golf destination. We go to WDW almost every year and we've played all of the courses multiple times. Our favorites in order are Osprey Ridge, Eagle Pines, Palm. Lake Buena Vista and Magnolia. If pricing is an indication of the popularity of a golf course, the pricing order is Osprey, Eagle, Palm/Magnolia and finally LBV. We always have made a point of at least playing Osprey Ridge each time we go to WDW. It is a fantastic course. Another incentive for playing either Osprey Ridge or Eagle Pines this year is that Eagle Pines is going away (plowed under for development) and Osprey Ridge is being reworked and rebranded for the Four Seasons Resort that is going on the Eagle Pines property. It is unclear at this time if WDW guest will have access to that golf course.

I also love the Palm, but be aware that they put the Richard Petty Experience NASCAR attraction right across from the 5th green/6th tee on that course and when the attraction is running, the noise is deafening on the Palm course and to some extent on the Magnolia. Play early on those courses while the new drivers are getting their instruction before driving!

We have encountered a lot of wild life on the Disney golf courses. One time on Eagle Pines we encountered 3 bobcats and the last trip we encountered a racoon that went right up to the cart looking for food. I under stand the racoons have gotten so bold that they have unzipped golf bags to get food and stolen purses. We encountered the one we saw right after the turn on the Palm. Little devil had it all scoped out. Hole 10...food purchased...lunch is served....

Osprey Ridge, then the Palm -- the peace and traqnaulity and wildlife of OR can't be beat. But save your money---This time of year, prices are north of $100 per person!!!

Go late in the day, around 4pm or so.

There's never a soul on the course and he can even take you with him! Plus it doesn't get dark here in Florida now until about 8pm.

If he has never played at Disney before, than Magnolia and Palm would be my suggestion. For any Disney fan, there is nothing like hearing the whistle from the train at Magic Kingdom while on the golf course, unless it is during your backswing Otherwise I would suggest Osprey Ridge as a back up. All the courses are great, should these 3 not be avail, but I would search these first!
