Golf Carts and ECVs...

I legitimately did not know whether this was a better question for here or DisABILITIES, I went with here because the board is FW specific and that's where we're staying in March.

I will have an ECV to get around due to mobility issues. I keep reading about the vastness of the resort and how slow the in-resort bus system is. If I rented a golf cart for the rest of my family to get around in, would the ECV be able to keep up with it? I have no idea how fast a golf cart goes, as I've never driven one.

Anyone else have this issue and can provide insight?

Vehicles are limited to 20 MPH including Golf Carts. It's been my experience that the Golf Carts will get near to that speed. Not sure how fast your ECV will go, but I suspect that the Golf Cart will go faster.

That said, the bus system isn't too bad, however, when loading an ECV the buses do go slower (as there is a process to secure the ECV as well as wheel chairs.) PLUS, as you can imagine space is limited more so for ECVs and Wheel chairs.

Is it better to get a GC? I don't know. That's a personal choice, but a lot of it also depends on your proximity to where you are and where you want to go. (If you are in the 200 loop and you are looking to go to the Boat dock, then NO, but if you are looking to go to the Outpost, that distance is much further)

I will not be riding the cart at all...it would be for my wife and kids, so we would have both. My question was based on being able to keep up with my family if they're on the cart and I'm on the ECV. We are actually going to be the accessible cabin, and will need to go to both Hoop De Doo and the boat dock while we're there, and I believe that covers a distance.

I went ahead and reserved a cart through Disney...we're not going to be there long enough for the savings of an off site provider to matter. I can always cancel if we change our minds before the trip starts.

Because the Golf Carts can go upwards of near 20 MPH, the ECV's don't typically go that fast. Still the GC can go slower. It does have a "Throttle" (so to speak) so that you can control the speed from slow to max speed. Again, it's a consideration in making your choice.

It is a pretty long way to go from the accessible cabins to the boat dock. And I am fairly sure there are stretches where there are no sidewalks, at least on one side of the road. (ECV would have to stay on the sidewalk I think?) Also they have paths for carts only, near the boat dock, I did not see any ECVs on those paths).

I think you may have to use the internal busses. The golf carts are lots of fun though.

My experience, I would leave with my mom's ECV about 10 minutes before the rest of the family left in the cart. They would still pass me, but I sort of liked the solitude of being by myself for a little bit. We were staying in the 1500 loop and I would drive it and load it for her on the buses and boats.

I don't see it keeping up but I agree with the leaving early and meeting up at those locations as a better option.

There are sidewalks to get you all the way there.

Agree with others, they don't go anywhere near to close the same speed. ECV's need to stay on sidewalks and the golf carts need to stay on the road. I can tell you that one night my husband rode his ECV all the way from the bus stop that's by the entrance (outpost I think?) to our camper which was in the 400 loop just across the road from the boat dock and it took him 22 minutes (he timed it). So at an ECV's top speed figure about 25-30 minutes to go from one end of the campground to the other end. Hope this helps with your planning!
