DH is wondering what is the best golf course to play at HHI OTHER THAN Harbour Town (green fees really high there!)? Do DVC Members get any golf discounts anywhere (I'm guessing no, since they are not Disney golf courses, but he wants me to ask anyway!)?

DH and DS really like Indigo Run, or any of the Palmetto Dunes courses. They also have played and enjoyed the courses at Shipyard Plantation and Port Royal Plantation. They have played Hilton Head National a couple of times: really liked it once and really DISliked it once.

In general, the courses in Bluffton (along Hwy 278 between I-95 and HHI) are less expensive, but not quite as nice.

The resort does have a list of golf course discounts. However, if you pick up one of the free golfing magazines that are all over the island (at restaurants, etc.) you may be able to get a better deal. The front desk of the resort will also reserve tee times for you if you'd like.

What time of the year are you going? If you go during the "off" season, there can be some great discounts -- even at Harbour Town. (It's still not cheap, but it's a great way to play that famous course!) Also check the local newspaper (The Island Packet ) for specials that might be running while you're there.

Another HHI golfer checking in. DH really liked Shippyard. Also, Matt, who works at the front desk, has some recommendations, he's pretty knowledgeable of golf. He recommended 2 courses across the street-one was the Arthur Hills course, don't remember the other (and DH is golfing right now, so I can't ask him), but DH is going to play the 2 courses next time we go. So I'd recommend asking Matt at the front desk for his recommendations.

Without a doubt, I would get the HHI golf booklet (free) that lists all the courses, their ratings and prices. Maybe you could call and get Disney or HHI tourism to send you one ahead of time so your dh can make tee times before you arrive. A lot of times my dh plays on the "after 2 pm" discount, which is nice.

If you want to play in Sea Pines but not pay the Harbour Town prices, there are 2 other courses open to the public: Ocean Course (great course!) and Sea Marsh. The Palmetto Dunes courses listed in the above postings are wonderful as well. HTH

Arthur Hills at Palmetto Dunes is my DH's favorite. After 12 noon the rates are cheaper. Also if you are active duty or retired military you get a great rate.. DH golfed at Old South and did not like it as much as Arthur Hills.

I would definately agree with the advice on checking the local papers and magazines for specials and offers that are in the area. There are a large number of good courses around. I got a pretty good deal on playing Harbour Town, Ocean and Sea Marsh ( one round at each of the Sea Pines courses) , it still wasn't cheap, but brought the cost of playing one round at Harbour Town (which I think any keen golfer visiting the area should do at least once) to a semi justifiable level :D
