When we were at DCA this past week the Golden Zepher was down and partial dismanteled (no cars, some of the "chains" missing. Is this just a rehab (so earlier?) or is it a goner??
We asked a CM in one of the Paradise Pier shops; and she said they hadn't told the CMs anything, but she had heard it could not function properly in winds as low as 5 - 7 MPH. We were there on Sat 8/25 and the cars were not there; but on Sun 8/26 they were. Maybe it will re-open soon.
No the ferris wheel is called the "Sun Wheel"
I am not sure how to explain this ride(Golden Zepher), it is kinda a cross between a "swing" ride and the astro orbitor.
Makes you wonder what the Imaginears were thinking when they spent all this money on a ride that can't even run.. Should of used the money on sprucing up DL!!!
I'd heard the ride was a gonner... but I hope that isn't the case. At least I got to ride the thing before they took it out. Its surprisingly fun... the wind in your face, flying around in those Buck Rogers type space ships... zooming out over the water and all. <sigh> I guess the same bean counters that designed Rocket Rods did this ride too. More fodder for Yesterland I suppose....
Isn't SuperStar Limo supposed to close also? (That would be a mercy! What a horrible non-disney ride! Who designed that abomination? Hahahaaah) I can't wait till Tower of Terror is built at DCA....
When we were there in May, even the slightest of breezes closed Zephr. It was down as much as it was up. I didn't bother riding it. I've seen those rides (that looked even better) at county fairs. Like Superstar, why bother?
Looks like they may have the problem solved as it was considerably breezer on 8/31 than it was in mid May when we were there...and it had not been running then.
The problems have been resolved (I think there is much more cabeling now than before, can't confirm since I haven't seen any picutres yet). It's there and flying high. Enjoy, it's a cute, fun ride!
We went on the Zepher on Tuesday 9/4/01. The weather was mild and there was no wind.
We are from the east coast (NJ) and we liked California Adventure, but we especially liked the park hopping feature. It was fun to bounce back and forth between DL and CA.
I understand they have also added some "landing gear." I haven't been yet, so I am not sure what this does for the ride. From the pictures if seen of the gear, It might unload/load easier/faster.
I'm glad that we're not the only ones that hate SuperStar Limo. I thought that maybe someone was on drugs or something when they designed the abomination. Whatever happened to good "old" Disney?
Thanks for the updates on the Golden Zephyr, its DS fav ride. He'll be happy to know that when we return it will be running again.
As for SSLimo.. last trip I finally went to see what all the whoopla was about... I can't understand who thought of that idea or why any of the "stars" would allow their name to be associated with the ride.
