We leave today for DLR (Yay!!) and I'm doing some last minute research. We have been a number of times, and with the chilly weather, I'm looking to add some indoor activities we have never done. I thought of the Golden Horseshoe, which we have never been to. With Billy Hill over at the JJJ, do they still have a show at the Golden Horseshoe or no?

is it the golden horseshoe or another place where kids aren't allowed in? I don't remember if it was because of the show content or alcohol being served? Or am I just completely wrong?
and that's a good idea with the indoor activities, I am trying to find more activities because of the new GAC system. I have an 8 year old who is severely autistic and coupled with that also has ADD/ADHD. The two diseases (ADD and autism) do not mix. His brain is constantly go go go go go and his autism doesn't allow him to process that go go go go go and so we get meltdowns, talking in his sleep, nightmares, and night terrors (which are really bad), anyways sorry I'm rambling please let me know and any other activities that are good for an 8 year old!

There is only one place in DL where alcohol is served: Club 33. Otherwise, DL is "dry" in terms of alcohol. :)

The Golden Horseshoe is a QS location and it's open to everyone. At the start of the year, they did a revival of the Golden Horseshoe Revue for a Limited Time Magic event, but that ended. There is still a piano player (and singer, I think) that performs periodically, but it's not a full on show.

There are no shows anywhere at DLR where kids are not allowed in. Alcohol is not served anywhere in DL except Club 33 (it's available lots of places in DCA but kids are still allowed). The only thing I can think of is that I believe kids are not allowed in Trader Sam's after a certain time in the evening?

To the OPs question, the usual show in the GH now is The Laughing Stock Co. However, I do not see them on the schedule for this weekend so I'm not sure if there will be anything in there.

Minuet888: During quiet(er) times, your son may not enjoy the ambience - when it is crowded, I am certain he will not like it. He IS welcome to be there, kids are allowed in there, they do not serve alcohol there. That being said, it has a very high ceiling, and the echo of the voices is very noticeable. It is also very dark in there. A great retreat on a really hot day, but then of course it is crowded and noisy, especially before a show. Your son may really enjoy going to Disney Animation Studio at California Adventure Park, he can watch some movie clips on a big screen while he waits for an event to start. He may love to go into the animation studio to learn how to draw Disney Characters, or, he may love seeing Crush the Talking Turtle. There is also an area to explore that tends to be more quiet and less crowded, things for him to get his hands on and see spinning films, etc. He will also love the Toy Story attraction that spins around and looks REAL as it turns faster and faster. VERY cool. Just remember to keep him even more well fed than usual, it is hard and draining on these kids to walk around the way so-called neurotypicals do, and the less droopy his blood sugar levels go, the easier it will be on all of you, including him. Also, mid afternoon nap or at least a rest, or swim, is beneficial!

Maybe it depends on the time of the day or whether of not there is a show, but when I was there in October (not at a show time), it had normal lighting. Not super bright, but definitely not dark.

Hmmm... we were there in May, and it was very bright outside, but I thought it felt dark - maybe that was because they dimmed the lights for the performace that had started. That must be it, lol. Maybe others can lend some input too. I also think it was from coming out of the BRIGHT sunshine, it was one of the hottest days they've had, and those root beer floats were AMAZING! :)

I love the golden horseshoe! It's a great place for an afternoon ice cream break. My kids love their ice cream sundaes and the Laughing Stock show was pretty funny. Sit upstairs along a railing if you can.

Have you done Turtle Talk with Crush at DCA? He might like that. Also, the Redwood Creek challenge in DCA, although that's outside.

Hugs, mama. He sounds like an amazing little boy with an active mind- and tough as that is as a little man (and parents!), it's a good thing, too. I hope you enjoy DLR!!
