Is the Golden Horseshoe closed now for refurb? Another site lists it as closed from May 15 - June 15 but the DL website shows that Billy Hill and the Hillbillies are performing while we are there. I hope we are able to see them.

Always go with the Disneyland calendar over another site. I've heard rumors that they might be performing somewhere other then in the Horseshoe, so just check when you get there. Sorry I can't remember where the alternate locations was.

The Golden Horseshoe is open and the Billys are performing in there daily. The refurb got pushed back. I don't know when you're planning on going, but if it's this weekend, the place likely will be filled with diehard Billy fans (mostly for the last 2 shows of the day as that's when most of them get there) as 2 of the guys are celebrating their B-days on Monday (only one of the b-day boys is scheduled to be working that day, though). I plan on being there all 3 days (look for me in the front row, center table).

Thanks for the info! Wow, the group must be really good to have such dedicated fans! We will be there the first full week of June. I remember reading that there are actually different groups that perform (something about green or gold??). Which do you recommend?

My fave team is the Gold team. They perform Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Then for me, the Blue team is a close second (Sundays and Mondays). I don't see them much because Sundays and Mondays are harder for me to get into the parks (part of why I'm really looking foward to this weekend--I haven't seen the blue team bass player since March). The Green team is Thursdays and Fridays. That show is still good, but I prefer the lead singer for the other teams (same person for both Gold & Blue teams).

If you're there on June 3 or June 10, I should be there. I don't know if I'll be there June 4 or not, but I'm guessing I likely will.

We will be in the parks Tues-Fri, so I will plan for us to see the Gold group on Tues or Wed. Any tips on where to sit or how early we should get there? Would you recommend eating there as well?

I like being up front, but you do run the risk of being picked on up there (I know them and they know that I'm more than willing to be picked on, but they also know what I'll do if they pick on me, so they usually don't). I always sit in the front row center table (I get to Golden Horseshoe by 10am and just don't leave until after the last show of the day as the usually have continuous service). On a weekday, you don't have to get in quite as early as on weekends, but the line for food can get long and if you're going to eat there, it's good to get there early. I don't like eating during the shows myself (can't clap along with the music with a chicken strip in my hand and everyone would prefer I not sing along with my mouth full). They have chicken strips (which they just changed--the new ones are more flavorful, but I think they need to leave them in the fryer about 30-60 seconds longer and make them a bit crispier), fish, and mozerella sticks (all served with natural cut french fries). They also have chili in a bread bowl and chili fries. The desserts are great--I love the 5 layer chocolate cake.

Last year when we were there we missed the GH shows. Looks like it is a must see for us this year.

I am sooo excited for this show! I have been going to DL since I was little and I have never been or even knew anything about it.
I hope it's not closed in July because we are really looking forward to it. :wizard:

The Disneyland calendar only puts the Billys up one month in advance, so their July schedule won't be up until June. I'm not worried because the show is very popular (packed room for pretty much every show, even on not so crowded weekdays). On weekends, most shows are SRO by about 10 minutes before showtime. So, it's a good idea to get there early, especially if you want a close table.

You have a front row table all day? That's pretty inconsiderate.

I do often invite people to sit with me if there are free chairs (as in my group, whom ever that ends up being that day, doesn't take all 4). What I consider inconsiderate are those who go in, eat (usually taking up one of the close tables), then leaving right before the show, or worse, during the show. It's not like there isn't a lot of places to sit in there.

 Aren't you generous. Why not just watch one show and leave the table free for familes that may have never seen the show? It's a good show, but do you really need to watch it all day? At the expense of other guests? This is the type of behavior that gives annual passholders a bad name. No wonder CMs have a dim view of passholders.

I guess you'll understand when I release my tell all book, Confessions of a Billy Addict.

I think it is really inconsiderate to tell people what to do when visiting DL. So by your logic, guests should only be allowed to experience each ride/show once. I don't think so!!

iceskatejen, it is your enthusiasm for the group that made me put the show high on our list of must-dos for our trip. Thanks for answering all of my questions and maybe we will see you there!

Hey, jen...

Next time we go I'll look for you so & if there's an extra seat I'll sit w/you. :)

I think this is a funny show. Rajah is the one whose posts convinced me to go since she thinks the show is great, too. We always laugh when we watch it.

I'm usually there every Saturday and like I said, all this weekend (Memorial Day too) celebrating Billy Bass and Billy Elvis's B-days. I should have an empty chair, and if not, we'll pull one over from another table.

What's may be even ruder than hogging a table at the Golden Horseshoe is putting words in someone's mouth. I never said someone should only experience a ride/shoe only once.

What if someone grabbed the the best 3 or 4 seats in Soarin' and never left them for the rest of the day? What if someone grabbed the best 3 or 4 seats at the Aladdin show and never relinquished them? What if someone grabbed the 3 or 4 front seats on the Jungle Cruise and never got off? Hogging the front table in the Golden Horseshoe all day is mare than a tad selfish. Passholders have a pretty poor reputation (CMs have a term that I'm beginning to think is totally appropriate) and it's because some passholders have an enormous sense of entitlement.

Yes, she can see it more than once. She obviously has many many many many times. But why not give someone who may be at Disneyland for the only time in their lives a chance to experience something you've experienced over & over & over. And over. Shoot, you can still go to every show, but why not leave in between the shows to give that family from Japan (or England or the East coast or...) who have traveled thousands of miles a shot at your table. Yeah, I know that you might be willing to share, but just maybe they'd like to have a table for themselves.

If Golden Horseshoe goes back to not having continuous service, I will leave in between shows, but so long as I can hang out in there all day, I will. I have yet to have a CM in the GH (food service or performer) say a thing to me (other than one teasing me about seeing 5 shows and not getting any food there) about being in there all day. I've actually had the Billy's thank me for there support (both after the shows and once during a show--yes, he mentioned me by name). I get along great with all the CMs in there. BTW, I'm not the only one who does this.

Ummmm....so? You can rationalize it all you want, but that doesn't prevent it from being rude. C'mon...."other people do it too" is the excuse of a 13 year old. Whether or not the band knows you is irrelevant. And the CMs probably won't do anything unless someone complains. And who's going to complain? The only guests that realize you've monoplized the table are other guests who are just as inconsiderate as you.

Be honest, how would you feel if you were in line for your favorite attraction, only to find there was a group that never gave up the best seats? And what if this was the only day you would ever be in the park? Would you honestly be OK with that?

Sometimes it's good to step out of your own skin and try to see something from another's perspective. Selfishness is not a very attractive trait.
