Golden Globes...A Shocker

Hmm. I can't really coment since I didn't actually see "Borat", but I think I liked Johnny Depp's performance in "Curse of the Black Pearl" better.

Anyway, I only really saw maybe the last half hour or so of the Globes because I was watching Star Trek (much more interesting).

I saw no character with Johnny Depp.

And then it becomes a matter of what everyone considers "character". ;)

I think there are more memorable scenes than that one lol. I mean, I tried to forget that scene more than any other...hmm...perhaps that is why...

Cohen deserved it. If pirates was trying to be a comedy it was a pretty bad comedy. Cohen stayed in his role the entire movie. There were never any scenes where he broke character.

The only reason PotC was put in the comedy section was because there's no way that it's a drama and there were funny parts in it. It's a weird thing to do, I know, but there it is.

I think they both deserved it, but apparently the people who chose thought Cohen deserved it more. I'm not sure who deserved it mor, but I'd give it to Johnny just cause I like PotC so much. ;)

I have never scene Borat, but no duh he never broke character, and why is that? Because they will film the scenes over and over and over again till he is in character. Their is no doubt in my mind that they both never broke character, because it is a movie, not a live production of the show. Both had a chacateraziation (wow sp?) about them. I have not sen Borat, so I really don't know what it is about to much other than what I've heard. I really have no opinon on who shuld have one, because I don't know who else was in the competion or have I seen Borat (or POTC2 in the longest time(I remember him doing an amazing job as always though))

Haha yeah that scene was pretty gross but it was pretty funny how long they kept it going for.

Most movies have atleast 1 or 2 jokes put into them. Pursuit of Happyness had acouple scenes that made you laugh but it definetly isnt a comedy.

Watch the movie then comment on it. Dont make foolish assumptions on something you clearly have no idea what its about.

PotC has really dramatic scenes in it (think of Davey Jones killing those who refused to join his crew, and what happens to Jack at the end of DMC) but it's not a drama because the overall theme isn't drama, it's more Action/Adventure. It doesn't fit perfectly into either genre, but it fits a little more into comedy because it's a lighter movie. Pursuit of Happyness fits a little more into drama because the overall theme is not comedy.

I'll admit, I laughed once or twice there, but mostly I was not looking lol. My friends and I were mostly laughing at the fact that we were trying to avoid it lol.

The house of the Jews was the only other part that was pretty funny to me. When they thought the beetles were them...well yeah lol.

But still, my opinion is that Depp should have had it. I know not everyone is going to agree, but that is simply how I feel lol.

Well I think Cohen should have got it. His comedy scene was much better. It's really not who's a better actor it's who was better in that movie. I almost had an accidnet in my pants watching borat. It was super funny. I don't remeber laguhing at all during potc. I do however remeber saying "Why did I come to see this?" " Depp's cute yeah but this is a pretty stupid movie" and what not.....

Ooops this is not a movie bashing thread. Maybe I shall go make one???

I have never seen borat, so I have no right to say that he shouldn't have won. But I do think that Sacha is a good comedian, and I thought he was hilarious in talledega nights. I admit that I love the POTC movies, and they are funny in parts, but I wouldn't really consider it a comedy. But I do understand why johnny depp was the nominee, since he tells most of the jokes in both movies.

I think the solution here would be to have another genre of judging in the Golden Globes, one movies that don't quite fit into either genre can have a fighting chance. Like: Drama, Comedy/Musical, >third genre here<

Just an idea.

Sacha Baron Cohen got the award against Johnny Depp. I saw both Pirates of the Caribbean II and Borat and let me tell you right now, no way in hell did Cohen deserve it over Depp...just no way. lol.

What do you guys think?
