Saw episode of Golden Girls I don't think I had ever seen before (on Season 6 dvd set). Sophia's cross dressing son Phil died. At the very end Sophia broke down and said she wanted to know what she did to make him this way. Not a cross dresser myself, but I started crying (hit a gay nerve). Happy to see Designing Women finally is out (season 1 and season 2 so far) on dvd. Another favorite of mine. Just felt like sharing.:happytv:

That one, the finale with Bea's departure and a tie maybe with the Alzheimer's one and the Mother's day episode are the top 3 tearjerkers.

Oh I know this episode. That was a sad one...and I agree with you too ^ the finale was the end of an era.

One a happier note there was another "gay" one, about Dorothy's friend who is a lesbian and Blanche thought she was Lebanese....hahaha.

"Well I dont know any personally, but isn't Danny Thomas one?" :rotfl2:

I never saw that one, but they really were before their time...always a message there somewhere. I miss them...:sad1:

I did not watch that show when it was on. I do not know why, maybe I was just to young. Now my GF's Uncle has reintroduced me to it. It is his favorite show. I must say I really enjoy it. :thumbsup2

We just bought season 3 from Target for like $9.

There was also another episode where Blanche's brother was gay.

WOW. Golden girls was really in to the gay acceptance thing back in th day.

"The man is as gay as a picnic basket!!......he's the only man I know who knows all the words to Send in the Clowns":lmao:

I'm sure I've seen every episode 600 times LOL but I still watch it all the time. They were very gay friendly! They used to have Golden Girls every Sat night at Uncle Charlies in NYC. Uncle Charlies was a staple back in it's day! It would play on huge screens in teh bar area - the place would be packed! :thumbsup2

Chris rolls his eyes when I still watch it - but I still laugh! It's like Lucy to me I guess!

I just posted a thread about a show in CA called The Golden Gays. It's 4 guys in drag playing the Golden Girls. Guess I should go back and say that in the thread maybe. Oops.

That was an awesome show. I still love watching it and they really were ahead of the times into accepting everyone.

HAHAHAAA! This is one I remember too! Actually a few months ago a man at my work referred to himself as gayer than a picnic basket and I yelled "THAT'S FROM THE GOLDEN GIRLS!" he didn't like that I knew that but it sure was funny! Ahh the things that show taught us...

we should start a favorite lines thread...

and in that spirit going back to Sophia and Phil does anybody remember (and bear with me here---even though I've seen each episode hundreds of time I don't have them memorized verbatim...)

I don't remember which specific episode but Sophia and Dorothy are on the couch reminiscing and Sophia recalls a favorite pink striped dress Dorothy used to wear that was up in the attic..

Dorothy: "ahh you put it up there because of the memories"

Sophia: "No, your brother Phil stashed it up there...he used to put it on when he'd go down to the firehouse"

there is just something about that line that is SO SOOO wrong and utterly hysterical at the same time:rotfl:
