Thinking of buying a new Gold Annual Pass (yes I'm eligible). For my trip in December it will be $500 for an 8 day hopper, so Gold Annual Pass is not much more $589. I'll try to do another trip before it expires.
Is this information posted somewhere?

What is the Florida tax percentage?
What are the block out dates?
Would member services let me pay for it with Disney Gift Cards?
Do I get 1 year from purchase? Or is it 1 year from first use?
When do prices generally increase?

What is the Florida tax percentage?
6.5%

What are the blockout dates?
Typically:
  • the week before and after Easter
  • roughly the last half of December (includes a couple of days after New Years Eve)
Would member services let me pay for it with Disney Gift Cards?
Yes, but you are limited to TWO per transaction. If necessary, you can use DisneyGiftCard.com to consolidate card balances to a max of $1,000 per card.

1 year from first use. If you purchase by phone or online, you will need to stop at either a Park Ticket Window or Guest Relations Location at WDW to activate prior to using.

When do prices generally increase?
2014: February
2015: February & October
2016: no AP increase
2017: February
2018: February

If you will be there during the black out date, get a regular hopper pass then on the last day of the trip stop and apply that ticket to an AP.
You will get full credit, at what ever the then current list price is towards to the AP. The AP will be 'back dated' to the first day you used it.

A couple of other things to consider regarding value of the AP: Even if you don't get another trip in, you will have AP discounts to help bridge the gap between that and the 8 day hopper. Also the AP comes with free photopass downloads for the year. So If you normally purchase memory maker, you will be able to save that money. And if you don't normally get it, there's still some added value to the AP.

But if the OP is using the hopper during the black out days for the Gold Pass, they can't upgrade the hopper to the AP until the last day of their trip, otherwise, they have no ticket to use to get into the parks.

I won't be within the black out days, I checked the disney website blackout calendar.
Thanks for the helpful info.

$627.29 out the door according to the website. Go to https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/, sign in with your MDE/DVC sign on, under parks and tickets select annual passes and it will show what you are eligible for. The gold is there with all the information on blackouts etc.

I am glad I read this post. So, for our trip 12/16-12/22 the last couple of days are black out dates. I could use a PH and upgrade to a gold on our last day? For some reason I was thinking that I couldn't upgrade to gold since it would be during a blacked out time.
