Going without a CC

Will not having a cc cause any problems? Will I still be able to collect the car etc.?

I'm probably taking too much cash (in the form of TCheques) as I don't have a CC and my debit cards are Haliax and TSB - both far too expensive to use in US.

we have been loads of time without a credit card and had no problems. at check in at a disney resort we put travellers checks on the room so we can charge things and the car company dont say anything

as long as you have enougth no proplem,on the car you will have to put a deposit down not to sure but might be around $300-$500,as they wont have a cc imprint from you,not to sure but they might accept a debit card

think what orangetigs means is they load up there KTTW card with $$$ and use this like a CC,if renting from alamo onsite they would accept it like a CC as you charge to room

Most car hire companies are OK if you have the full insurance, just send a quick email to the actual car hire company telling them you don't have a cc but full insurance (we did this our first trip as we didn't have a card and they emailed us back and said it was fine as we had full insurance, we took this with us but they didn't ask us for one anyway).

As others have said as long as you can leave cash deposits you should be OK, most hotels require a cc now or the cash equivalent.

we rent with dollar and dont have a credit card, because they find us on their system we have no problems.

We just advise them we have no credit card. we last went in feb and just had the full insurance from virgin not the platinum one and had no problems

You DONT need a credit card for car hire is you have platinum insurance and are collecting from Dollar.

I wrote to Dollar in UK and have a letter confirming this - states that no credit card imprint will be required at either MCO or Sanford as long as platinum insurance is bought in advance via TCD, Virgin etc or Dollar direct.

If you have time before you go why not write to the Uk office of whoever you are hiring car through and get a letter to confirm and take with you.

We weren't asked for a card imprint by Dollar, maybe because we booked the car hire with our VH package? We do have them so it wouldn't have been a problem but since they didn't ask I didn't disclose the info.

Interestingly, when we went with a TCD flydrive package opting only for standard insurance they didn't ask for a CC imprint - i suppose if you've got a package booked through a TA, they can just claim off them for any issues, and they'll forward the claim to you?

I dont have a credit card, my debit cards are barclays, halifax, so last month I opened a nationwide current account to get a debit card off them, they dont charge to use the card abroad.

I have mostly dollars and T/Cs but I have put £1000 onto the debit card just in case! Plus when I come back any unspent money is still £s.

It only took just over a week to get my card and pin number through the post, it might be worth trying this.
