Going to Wildwood, NJ - need restaurant ideas

We are heading down to Wildwood, NJ the last weekend in September. There is supposed to be a lot going on that we've never seen before. There is an Irish weekend, a celebration on Sunset Lake and a Classic Car show. Personally, I'm going for the ocean, but I'll try the other things too.
Has anybody ever been to these events?

I need the best of the following types of food in the Wildwood area:

Breakfast - either pancakes or a really good bakery, yum...

Pizza - Is Mack's really the best? What is the best pizza from there? I tried to find a menu on-line, but did not succeed. How are the prices?

Seafood - I know the Lobster House, but is there anything more affordable nearer the boardwalk? That won't give us food poisoning?

Icecream....got to have icecream. Any suggestions appreciated.

Been going to Wildwood my entire life. Irish Weekend is fun and there are plenty of places to eat. My fav is Wildwood Diner for breakfast, You can find a good meal almost anywhere on the Jersey shore. My favorites however are a little drive further north to Ocean City and Atlantic City. ( not a far drive and very direct and easy to get to. ) You can even go a few minutes south into Cape May. They have great res. too. Most are on the internet. Sorry I don't know one off hand. Have a great time and BTW, my fav ice cream is Kohr Brothers right on the boardwalk!

Urie's Restaurant - not near the boardwalk (near the causeway) but good food, nice setting, decent prices.

Kohr's ice cream - various locations on the boardwalk. It's actually frozen custard. If that's not your thing, then Lime Rickey's on the boardwalk or the Sea Shell Motel has an icecream parlor built right in it, I think.

Pizza - no idea.

For cheap GREAT food, there's a little deli that sells take out philly cheese steaks and stuff like that, it's just a block from the beach on I think 10th street? I can't remember the name, but when I do, I'll add it to this. AWESOME cheesesteaks.

Irish Fest - don't take your young children if you have them. Lots of fun but also lots of extremely drunk people. Car show is great and luckily you will just miss Bike Week which is rowdy (neat but rowdy and loud).

Yes, Macks pizza IS that good. They only have the standard pizza fare and prices are comparable to any other seashore pizza place. Haven't had one this year (we go after the season) so couldn't tell you the going rate.

There are zillions (I kid you not) of places to eat that will not give you food poisoning . Just depends on what you want to spend. Follow your nose, literaly, once you hit 2 blocks from the boardwalk you will smell every kind of food you can think of.

Ice cream has to be Kohr's, YUMMY. Haven't done breakfast in Wildwood since back in the day when I bar hopped in Wildwood and hit the Vegas Diner at 3:00 a.m.

While you're in Wildwood visit the Harley Davidson shop, my son and his girlfriend work there!

We'll be there too!! Wer'e staying at the Adventurer-been going every year for about 10 years.Where are you staying? If you visit the Irish Festival in North Wildwood they have plenty of food stands there. As for breakfast we usually go to Uncle Bills Pancake house or go into Cape May. As for icecream try Duffers or Bandanas--got to try a Kohrs soft-serve on the boardwalk For seafood we usually go to the Boathouse or Uries. Anybody know if they rebuilt Two Mile Landing? For pizza try Bayside Pizza. For a great Italian we usually go to Little Italy in the center of town. It's a great weekend to be there-sooo much to do-not enough time!!

We love Wildwood!

Urie's is good for seafood.

Go to the Doo Wop Diner on the boardwalk for killer shakes - I had an apple pie shake that really tasted like apple pie!

For fresh pasta, try the Ravioli house. They also have a bake shop next door where you can buy pies... The apple is the best!

Duffer's (?) has great ice cream - I had pina colada - yum!

Okay, first of all..have fun. I been going to Wildwood for over 30 years now and here is my 2 cents:

Breakfast: Samuels (17th & Surf) definitely the BEST. Uncle Bills (have to drive) but also good. I wouldn't eat at any of those $2.99 breakfast on the boards

Ice cream: Hands down either Duffers or Hassels (the have a great ice cream waffle sandwich).

Pizza: Definitely Sam's Pizza on the boardwalk across from Morey's Pier and also Mack's is good too but I haven't had them in years.

Seafood: Don't eat it down there

Italian: Little Italy

Sandwiches: Russo's

Let us know who you make out.

Im from OC. So i know the area pretty well.

In wildwood, The olympic flame has pretty good pizza, they also have pasta, clazones and such.

I agree That the doo woop dinner has amazing miklshakes.

Uncle Bills is good for breakfast. I think they have one in wildwood.

Macks is good too.

And my personal favorite Fudge from The Fudge Kitchen.

There are plenty of great places to eat on the boardwalk just walk around and see what appeals to you.

If you head over to OC. Mack and Mancos is the best pizza on that boardwalk.


When you go to Wildwood beach make sure to not bring that much. It is a very long walk. If you go to the south end. I would go up to the north side. The beach is closer and sometimes less crowded.

I live in OC. My feeling about my town is there are very few great sit down restaurants. The specialty here is boardwalk fare. You want to concentrate on eating things like pizza, fudge, ice cream, salt water taffy, etc. We call it the boardwalk grace although it can also be called the boardwalk waddle. On the plus side you walk alot when you are at the shore so you can burn it off. Consider renting bikes early in the am. It's nice to bike a shore town.

I have not been to Wildwood in YEARS....but it is where we went when I was little and my parents went on their honeymoon and where my mom went with her grandmother whe was young.

Groffs was always a place that we went to for dinner. My mom loves their Peach Glazed Pie.

Had to also get Laura's Fudge as well.

I live off of the island, but I work in North Wildwood, right accross the street from the Vegas Diner.
Mack's is in my opinion, is better than Sam's.
We don't eat at too many rest. in Wildwood.
If your looking for a awsome hoagie, try Primos (13th and New Jersey ave). They are the best.
Ice Cream: Khor Brothers!
If your looking for Italian, The Ravioli House is good.
I also agree, if you have children, don't take them to the Irish Fest!
AL&P is still there, that's at 14th and New Jersey.

Hi Trish,

We are renting a condo in Wildwood because we wanted to bring our dogs with us. I wish we could just have rented a two room efficiency in Wildwood Crest, but none of them accepts pets. This condo looks nice, and it's a block from the boardwalk so we won't be right on top of the noise.

I'm hoping to at least take the dogs for a walk on the beach without getting thrown off. Anybody ever try it?

Thanks for all the ideas for places to eat! Making me hungry reading it. I still would like a good bakery to go to for cinnamon buns, etc. but I can do some pancakes instead.

I could have written this post with minor changes. My DH and I went to Wildwood for 2 days after we were married. I have gone to Groffs every year since I was 3 or 4 with my Grandmother and now to remember her. Personally I like the Black Bottom Pie. Laura's fudge is my personal favorite also. I was actually in Wildwood yesterday and came home with a pound of fudge and had the chocolate covered strawberries while I walked to my car. I go down there at least 3 or 4 times every summer for the day. It is my favorite place in the world, after Disney of course.

Okay, I suggested Mack's pizza to my family because it came with rave reviews from the Disboards and there were people eating inside and at the counter. We ordered half cheese, half sausage and my husband forked over $20+. He decided he wanted a calzone from a different place up the boardwalk, Frachonis or something like that. So we thought we'd have to wait for the pizza about 20 minutes, so he took off and I told him we'd meet him back in the condo. Two minutes after he left, they threw the pizza up on the counter and didn't even say anything. It's not like they were that busy. We were the only ones waiting for a pizza to go. I mean a simple "here is your order" would have sufficed. So anyway, after peaking inside we realized it was out pizza and took it back to eat. It was horrible! I was so disappointed. The crust was too thin and tasteless, the sauce was too thick and also not spicy at all - tasted like hunts tomoto sauce, and the cheese had melted off and was halfway in the box, maybe when he threw it on the counter. The sausage didn't taste like much at all. My son and I were kidding that they were dog treats.

I just wanted to warn others that if they have eaten at Mack's before and loved it, they either have a totally different idea of what pizza should taste like than I do, or Macks has really changed....
