Going to WDW without the family......

....... this is the first time I'll be leaving the folks at home - boy, does it take some organising!! I am about to go on another last trip to the supermarket! ( I've been having last trips to the supermarket every day for the last four or five days )

Then there are the notes pinned on the cupboards - medication for asthma for DS ( age 12), how to use the iron D), the oven etc. other DSs ( age 16) GCSE timetable etc. ( I didn't know they would start this early when I booked - however, the bulk of them will be when I return) Phew!

I'm worrying now if they'll be okay - I have my phonecard activated ( thank you Astrid ), and I shall be checking in with them when I can.

Has anyone else gone without the folks before?

(....... and BTW, I'm feeling SOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited and nervous all at the same time!!)

They might not do things the way you would have done them, and perhaps they'll live on Fish and Chips and Pizza for the week, but as long as eldest son makes it to his GCSE's, nothing else really matters.

I have to leave Katie with my m-i-l for a few hours every week, and they do NOTHING the way I would do it- I've finally accepted that as long as she's still alive when I pick her up, nothing else really matters

DH and I did WDW without DD in feb and we enjoyed it so much we are going back in October! Admittedly she is now 18 and fairly embarassed by us, but it did'nt stop me worrying. However, with 3,000 miles between you there isn't much you can do other than lie back and relax!
She was fine, as we knew she'd be and more than happy with the obscene amount of CDs we brought back, mainly bands I had never heard of!
Don't worry, they'll be fine!

Yes, been there, done that

I went with my mum last year, leaving DH and DDs (then aged 12 and 16 - does that sound familiar, Shirley?) behind

I compiled a looseleaf binder full of instructions for running the household, convinced that life would grind to a halt once I'd shut the front door behind me! Of course, they managed perfectly well, and I'd do it again without worrying nearly as much next time!

I allocated domestic tasks to the DDs - one got the dishwasher, the milk and feeding the cat, the other got all tasks related to laundry / ironing. DH was in charge of food, with DDs chipping in as and when required. I seem to remember that they had a few takeaways and went to the pizza place as well!

I'm sure that, once you're really on your way, you'll be able to relax and enjoy yourself. Have a great time

Yes I have done this too..

DD2 and Myself left DH and DD1 at home for a week.

The only thing I had to leave instructions for was on how to use the washing machine, they are quite used to all the other stuff in the house.. very domesticated..

I must admit to making quite a few phone calls home, just to make sure everything was fine, it was!

I know how you feel, it is really strange being excited and nervous at the same time.

Once you get there though you have loads of fun.
