We are going to Disney for a week. Arriving May 29th. I am counting down the minutes!! I have been to the World many times always carrying my backpack. I am a packer and planner. If we needed anything I had it in my backpack; snacks, sunscreen, mole skin, water, etc. I have never stayed onsite or had the dining plan. This year we are staying onsite and having the dining plan!!!:thumbsup2 So now to the question...Should I just put my sunscreen, a small poncho, and KTTK in my pocket and tour without my bag??? My kids are older now they don't need so many things. I will have the dining plan so my snacks and meals are covered. A cup of water is free. IDK!:confused3 I think I am going to try it! Have you ever gone to the parks without your bag? Do I dare?

Sounds pretty extreme, but I'd say GO FOR IT!:cool1: Only thing I'd make sure of is that you drink enough. If you don't have a water bottle, you might "forget";) HAVE FUN!!:drinking1

If any of you burn easily, you may want to include a small tube of sunscreen. I have gone to the parks before without carrying a bag and usually that is the only thing that I forget to take that I really need.

Personally I like the storage option that the backpack provides. But with you staying on site it allows you to send purchased items directly to your room. But if you can see your self carrying anything around the park I would use a bag instead. I think it may be a convenience issue. Even if it is not as full as you used to need it to be.

I do it alot! I wear cargo shorts so I have space to put all my gear.

I bring:

camera, spare battery, spare SD card
poncho
travel size advil
quarters and pennies usually in Mini M&M container half full
travel size sunscreen
insurance card
tickets/room key
cash
credit card
moleskin
blister block small (near the bandaide aisle)

And I think that's it. Lately I've had to bring a small cross body bag since DD wants autographs so I carry her autograph book.

I do and I love it!

I found a little cell phone pouch with a carabiner clip that is just big enough for my iPhone, Driver's License, Resort key, and lip balm. It also has a little zip pocket so I can carry some cash. It's great not having to carry anything around! Very liberating!

my DW used to carry the backpack but now she has switched to a smaller purse, I think its Vera Bradley. It is roomy but she said it is much lighter than the backpack. Is there one called the Hipper? or Hipster? something like that. anyway, you might want to try it

My kids are 8 and almost 6 but accidents still happen such as an entire drink down the outfit or a nose bleed all over the shirt. It has gotten lighter but it will probably be another two or three years until we have the backpack burning!

Our family goes twice per year. We havent carried a back pack for the last 15 of them probably. We just take what we can carry in our pockets; tiny, thin wallets, pass, maybe a camera, phones. Thats about it. Sometimes DD22 will carry a small over the shoulder bag we got at rainforest cafe several years ago. Just big enough to carry a couple of ponchos.

Do it! It really frees you up.

Oooohhhh, I don't know. My backpack to me is like a blankie to a two year old. Let me know if you do it and how it goes. Not sure I can give mine up! :confused3 I'd love to go without it, but haven't got the courage up yet. I often throw left overs in the bag for later. Do you think they will send a 1/2 eaten turkey leg and pretzel back to my on-site room for me?:lmao:

I love not having to carry a bag around. When DH and I go by ourselves I don't carry one. Although with the kids I usually have to carry a smaller bag but refuse to carry a large backpack anymore. It is refreshing and freeing to not carry one around!

We too do the cargo shorts...and on the off day I fold up a nylon backsack and shove it in a pocket- just in case.

I HATE the wait at bagcheck.

(also have the Vera hipster- but I can't shove it in a pocket to skip bagcheck- did I tell ya I hate bagcheck lines?!?)

Gotta say, New Wave Dave, I am impressed that you came up with the name of the Vera Bradley Hipster!!!!! Your DW should be proud, she has educated you well!:lmao:

I carry a Baggalini wallet bag. It is pretty lightweight and I can squish a lot of stuff in there: KTTW card, license, health ins card, credit card, cash, small sunscreen, lip balm, tissues, sunglass case, poncho, cell phone. (No camera because DH handles the photography but I think I could fit a small one). I use cheap ball caps, with the velcro opening in the back, so I can velcro it around the strap of the bag when I take it off. Good caps don't have the velcro opening, so more tricky to carry after dark.

Good luck!!!!!!

I say go for it, but bring your usual bag with you on the trip just incase!!!

I learned the hard way switching bags on a trip once that my planning did not work, and spent the whole trip pining for my trusty old friend...lol!

If it doesn't work for you , then you will only need to go a day without and not a whole trip.

I think I am going to try it! I will definitely bring my usual bag to the hotel then if I chicken out I can use it! :rotfl2: My husband said Go ahead, but he is carrying his bag. He likes to have snacks and a water bottle at all times.
I'm thinking I may try half a day without my bag. baby steps...baby steps

There's the simple answer to your problem!
Sneak your things in his bag when he's not look. ;]

My husband and I bring a backpack when we don't have the kids...I am not sure how anyone would do this.

I am not even going to try it (though we only have one between us so we each get breaks).
