going to the beaches

We're taking the 7 night western April 9. I thought when you got off the boat you just went to the beach. I've come to hear this isn't so. My family and I just like to hang at the beach. In Grand Cayman and Cozumel, which beaches should we book the excursion with, or should we just take a cab. Im very confused. We don't want someplace that takes an hour to get to. Thanks!

Generally speaking DCL beach excursions are fairly spendy compared to doing them on your own.

I know that Grand Cayman was hit really hard by one of the hurricannes last year and I don't really know how the beaches are there. One of the more popular ones is 7 Mile beach. You will want to get dropped off by one of the hotels (brain freeze - don't remember which one right now )

On Cozumel you can go to many beaches. Some are free (like Playa San Francisco) and others have a nominal charge for entry (Mr. Sanchos). There is Chakanab park/beach that is very nice. Count on $10 per person for taxi, $10 for a couple of chairs and an umbrella and an admission fee if there is one and you come up with a realtivly inexpensive day at the beach (vs $45 per person on DCL)

The beaches (7 mile) in Grand Cayman are a short cab ride from where the tender drops you off in port. Up near the governor's mansion the beach used to be quite wide and clean.
