we are thinking about going to nyc next weekend. we were thinking about driving over to hoboken, nj to carlos bakery, then parking our car and taking the train into the city and staying at a hotel. any suggestions for a nice family hotel in the times square area along with the train. thanks in advance for the help :)

I can tell you that parking in Hoboken is pretty tough - too many cars and not enough spots.

You could drive to the North Bergen Park and Ride, and take a bus to Times Square.

I did this a few years ago. The drive in NYC isn't that bad. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Midtown. It had it's own parking garage for about $10 per day. It also has a pool on the 10th floor. It was 1 block from Central Park and a few blocks to Times Square. The only bad thing about the hotel was their food. I think it was on 54th Street. The price was not to bad. We stayed for 3 days.

Travel Inn NYC, website is showing sun the 18th for $175.00/night.
They offer FREE parking and have a roof top pool.
Have not stayed there yet, but will be soon.
It's on 42nd about 10 min walk to Times Sq.
Looks like easy to get around by the subway on 42nd/Times Sq station.

Or do what we do, and stay either at the Sheraton in Weehawken or the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City. Cheaper, MUCH, and you can catch a ferry or a PATH train (from Jersey City) or a bus directly into the city - it'll take you maybe 15 to 20 minutes. On the weekends, we've parked on the street in Jersey City with no problem, and the parking is free at the Sheraton in Weehawken. Check out the reviews on Trip Advisor - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

And a bonus of staying in Jersey that people don't think of is that you get that incredible view of the twinkling skyline of Manhatten at night - it's amazing!
