We are planning on staying at HHI in 2010 thru RCI. It is my sister's exchange thru her timeshare (NON-DVC). I was wondering from those who have been, any recommendations on resorts or areas of the island to stay.

My parents own at Coral Reef on HHI. It is an RCI property. We've stayed in The Cottages twice too. These are in Shipyard. We've made 9 trips over the last 8 years and have always been happy. There are so many nice properties in HHI, but these are the only 2 timeshare properties we have stayed in. We've also stayed at 4 of the different hotels on the ocean (Westin, Crowne Plaza, Marriott Palmetto Dunes, and Hilton)

Of course the HHI DVC is really nice. We've been over there to check it out-but have never actually stayed there. I'd like to buy there in the future. I like the big themed pool area and the fact that there is a beach house. Right now staying for free in a 3 bed/3 bath at Coral Reef with my parents has been keeping us from purchasing. Now my sister is married and has 2 little ones...so I've been thinking about it much more seriously over the last year.

thanks for the response. I was told there are different areas of the island, sea pines, harborside, etc... So I was trying to figure out the way to go!

Harbourside III is right across the marina from the DVC resort - like DVC it is not on the ocean, but guests staying there will have a pass that provides access to the beach. It has a pool and offers 1,2 and 3BR villas. Some overlook the marina (and the DVC resort) and others look out at the pavillion where concerts are given (in summer season). There are 6 restaurants within 100 yards and a lot of boutique shops right at Shelter Cove Marina. It trades thru RCI.

There are some Marriotts at HH, Coral Reef is nice (try not to get sucked into a sales pitch though as it's rather high pressure) - try to look for Gold Crown and Silver Crown resorts as they tend to be consistenly better.

We are planning our third stay at the Island Links Resort. It has two listings in RCI- Island Links and Island Links by Coral Resorts.

It is a beautiful resort in the Port Royal Plantation. I was very happy to see that it is on the DVC list too.

It is a compact, well maintained resort with two pools. The larger pool is a zero entry pool and has a water play area for kids. One end of the pool has a large umbrella shading the water. It was perfect to be in the pool and in the shade in late July last year. It had numerous planned activities for kids, but our kids are too old for them, so I don't know specfics.

The rooms are 2 and 3 bedrooms units.

It is about 1/4 mile or so from the beach. The kids road bikes to the beach. There is a shuttle from the resort to the beach access at the Westin Hotel. There is also a covered parking garage at the Westin.

You are permitted to you the Westin facilities, not their outdoor pool, but restrooms and exercise room. We also had lunch at the outdoor restaurant.

We really like Hilton Head Island.
