Going to DL in late August?

We were planning on going the first week of August, but now looking at the last week of August (or technically the first week of September), but leave Sept. 4th before Labor Day weekend.

I know the park hours will be shorter, but what about the crowds? Also, will most of the rides still be running? I thought a lot of them go down after Labor Day?

I just don't know if we can handle early August crowds. I avoid WDW in the summer time just because of the crowds. We have a 5 year old and I don't know how he would handle the people and lines.

Thanks for the advice.

We were there 8/22-8/25 last year. It was hot. It was crowded. We beat that by getting to the park at rope drop and leaving around 1 p.m. to swim and rest then would go back about 5:30 p.m. or 6 p.m. for a few hours using fastpasses we had gathered earlier.

If you don't do commando all the time, it can be done without causing a meltdown in the family. Also, don't be afraid if your guy is little to get a stroller at night. I used a stroller for my guy up to when he was six in the evenings. Yeah, people gave me the stink eye but I didn't care because it beat the lollygagging and draggin' around I would have had otherwise.

Have a great trip!

We will definitely bring the stroller for him. I don't care what other people think because it certainly doesn't bother me is kids (even bigger kids) are in strollers. They get tired and cranky so if it makes my trip better and more enjoyable then why should others care.

So even later in August, the crowds are still high? If that is the case, then I might as well keep our early August trip and have longer hours.

Does anyone know the difference in DLR summer crowds vs. WDW summer crowds? Since So. Cal resident passes have the summer blocked out, does that mean weekdays in the summer are not too bad? We don't plan on going on the weekends at all. Also, we have time so we definitely will not be going commando.

The last two weeks in August are not blocked out for deluxe APs at all. The S.CA are blocked on Saturdays only. I would still avoid weekends if your stay doesn't extend in to one, because it still seems like a lot people without passes come for the weekend. If it works out for you to be there on a weekend, then I still say go, but I wouldn't pick it over a weekday.

I don't know when the summer hours change. It is possible they still might have the long summer hours. :confused3

I don't know for sure but I thought the summer hours usually lasted until after labor day {hopefully someboday can confirm this}...I hope they are longer considering we are planning to go 20-28 Aug...

I was pretty sure they lasted longer too. They just don't have the hours up for that far ahead so I can't check. I just can't imagine them going to shorter hours at least until Sept.
