Ok, I know its not the next day but I will do my best to fill you in. Yes, it was Toy Story 2. We got there about an hour before the show as we thought the traffic would be bad, but made it in record time and got great parking close to the doors. £10 is a bit much I think though. Anyway, we got in to be confronted with Disney merchandising at its best.
Firstly, there is an opportunity to have a photo taken with Buzz, not a CM but a lifesize figure. The price: £8 to £20. Not too bad, I suppose.
Then we have programmes for £7. Woody figures for £9 to £19. Let me tell you, the £9 was tiny and was not worth it. Styrofoam cowboy/ cowgirl hats were £11. This is all I can remember from this stall but I was disgusted. Next, themed food and drink. £6 for a souvenir bucket of popcorn, a coloured ice slush drink in a Jessie cup was £6 and in a larger Buzz was £11. These did look like ceramic but I still think its too much.
We moved the kids as quick as we could to find our seats. Block A6, front row next to the ice (the short end) in the right corner. Of course, more merchandise and food is floating around the ice. At this point, clever yours truly pulls the Stitch glow and spin toys from home. We have saved £12 and the kids are happy. We bought them an ice cream and they were set.
Right, on with the show. First let me say that I had been to see the last show which was 100 years of magic and I loved this for the variety of characters I saw. On the way in the car I had said that I'm sure this would be good but wouldn't be the same without Mickey and co. Well who comes out first from the dimmed lights? Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald. I actually shed a tear. I waved madly and I think my children were more into watching my reaction than the characters (see, it works both ways). They know how I feel about them so they were very happy for me.
5 minutes later and we had the opening scene of the film where Rex is playing the video game (oh and a very screechy shooting firework flew over my right ear.) This was a bit scary for DS3. Thre were soldiers after Buzz, a big Zurg face and then Buzz dies at the end of the game. Following this, we were in Andy's bedroom, where all the characters from the film came out. My kids loved this bit when they saw them all at once. DH was dissapointed in Bo Peep as she looked creepy with the wig and heavy make-up but otherwise it was great. My DS fell in love with Weezy and my grandmother loved the 2 little troll dolls.
Each scene from the film was played out with some clever special effects. Al was included, and was not a face character but was very well done with lots of evil laughing and wobbling head gestures.
Special note should go to the scene where the characters are trying to get to Als Toy Barn to save Woody. Using traffic cones and moving cars an elaborate sequence is played out with a toothpaste lorry at the end for effect. Very well done. The Barbies were great (no tourguide Barbie, bit strange) and a very tall moving Zurgt robot that came straight towards us (sheer terror for DS again).
Very clever use of perspective througout when one moment things are from toy level to then our level, great dance sequences and music, lots of clever effects which I won't reveal here and spoil and a great finale with Wheezy singing and my favourite gang coming back.
Yes, the last show was better but I think if you're a big Toy Story fan, you may feel different to me. A very well done show that is worth seeing and will tide me over for now. January seems a long way away and by the looks of it Disney Inc. are after my money. Time to go save some more.
Much pixie dust,
Claire
