Hello! DH and I are leaving for Boston next week. It'll be a quick trip to catch a couple A's games at Fenway Park.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on restaurants we should dine at or things to do/see. We'll be landing Thursday evening and coming home Sunday afternoon.

Thank you in advance for your recommendations. Have a magical night!

I highly recommend Fire & Ice for lunch or dinner. You pick out the veggies, meat, and sauce you want for your food, and bring it over to the grill to be cooked. The food is really good, and since you put in the stuff you like, you know you'll like it :) It's located on the corner of Berkley and St. James (one block from Boylston St.).

Duck Tours are a lot of fun. You get a tour of Boston by land and water. They last about 90 minutes. You can make reservations online in advance at www.bostonducktours.com They sell out all the time, so that may be a good idea. You can get them from the Prudential Center (in the Back Bay) or out at the Museum of Science (in Cambridge).

The Maporium at the Christian Science Church is really interesting too. It's a big walk through glass globe.

We did the Duck Tour for the third time on Monday, and it was just as fun as the first two times.

We ate at Legal Seafoods and was generally disappointed with the service, and to a lesser extent, disappointed with the food. If seafood is your aim, stick with Skipjacks or No Name or one of the others that have better reputations locally.

Fanueil Hall and Quincy Market are fun to explore, as is the Freedom Trail. We love the Aquarium and the MOFA...........I could go on and on - we only live a couple of hours away...........

check into going into Fenway for a 'behind the scenes' kind of tour during the day before a game - pretty kewl! :thumbsup2

I always love just hanging on Yawky Way!

I was just up in boston for a night last week - 2 things I'd definately suggest are eating dessert at Finale (can't remember exactly where it is, but try googling - there's a webpage). The food was WONDERFUL, and it was packed at 10:30 on a Wed. night. Definately also do the Freedom Trail - it was a lot of fun to walk down it.

I second the duck tours, they are fun for everyone. Where are you staying? Finale is a dessert only restaurant and it is fabulous...but not cheap. But worth a splurge! It's right near the Park Plaza Hotel. There is also an Italian restaurant there called Maggiano's. I have never been but I hear good things. Of course, if you want to run over to the North End, you almost can't go wrong for Italian. Especially if Italy is still in the World Cup, it could be very exciting! The place will be wild. Also, on the weekend, there are often feasts in the North End and that is a fun thing to do.

Lucky you - have a great trip. Others will chime in with all sorts of great recommendations for things to do and places to eat (me? I just like to walk around the North End restaurants, look at specials, smell the kitchens and stop in where the mood calls me.)

But I want to point out that Fenway is a vastly overrated dump. You'll have a miserable time. With all the other great things to do in town, it would be a shame for you to have to waste even a moment of your vacation. Ditch the tickets and go out to enjoy the best Boston has to offer.

Oh, wait, I just realized that with everyone catching on as to what a miserable experience Fenway is, you probably won't be find a sucker willing to take the tickets off your hands. In the spirit of being a good DIS-neighbor, I guess you can unload them on me. Send me a PM and we can work it out :)

EDIT - Just in case the tongue stuck in my cheek isn't obvious on the printed page - I'm joking about Fenway.

If you want to have something to eat and/or drink before the game, check out Game On! It's right there at the park on the corner of Yawkey Way and Landsdowne Street and lots of fun before and after the game.

PS -- how did you ever get tickets???? :rolleyes1

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'll forward them to DH.

I'm not too sure where we're staying since DH is planning this trip. I believe he got the tickets from a business associate.

I like to walk the Harbor... like to see all the boats docked there- WOW ! Actually I do it every night on my break as I work 2 blocks away :)

There is a restaurant at the Harbor not sure the name but it is at @ 50 Rowes Wharf.. they have FREE outside bands playing on water, dancing and outside dining there! and on Friday, they play a movie outside FREE as well. Not sure what this Friday will be.

Also in that area, right next to the Aquarium is IMAX 3D movies, right now they have 4 ... Deep Sea 3D,Aliens of the Deep 3D, Wild Safari 3D and Sharks 3D. We saw Deep Sea and LOVED it!! It is 40 mins, and Johhny Depp and Kate Winslow narrate, documentary like. You learn so much about the living sea and it is amazing stuff! Here is the website for it. Oh am Legal Seafood is right there too!

Fanuiel Hall is across from the Harbor as well. Shopping, dining and all that.

Thanks! I'm not too sure. DH mentioned near the airport at one point, but I think he changed hotels.

Oh I'm so jealous!!!!! One that you're going to Boston and two the SOX!!!!!

We were supposed to go to Anaheim in August to go to a SOX game but we're going to Colorado now.

Go to Boston Beerworks its right across from Fenway (I went there with my now husband on our first date)

Or you could just grab a sausage pepper and onions sandwich outside of Fenway!!!!

Have fun!!!!

Thanks everyone! I can't wait until we leave. I just have to get through a day of work (which I should be getting some rest for right now especially since I need to get in early so I could leave early) and DS's All-Star baseball game. Oh yeah, I still have to pack.

DH and I will try and do as much as possible, but since we only have 2 full days I doubt it will include everything you mentioned. DH is going to plan another trip to Boston for next year for DS, DH and I, so hopefully what we don't do this trip, we can do the next.

To the OP: How was your trip (if you are back)? :sunny:

It has been terribly hot here these past few days. I hope you stayed cool. Fenway can be hot. I saw on TV at yesterday's game, Mike Timlin (pitcher) was hosing down the crowd. I thought that was one of those "only at Fenway" moments!

Hope you enjoyed your trip and come back when it's cool. Fall is nice (we seem to not have spring anymore...just cold to muggy)

If at all possible, try to avoid "The Tunnel of Terror" aka, the Big Dig! :guilty:

I hope you had a good time in Boston!

Can I blame you for Oakland taking 3 out of 4 games to the Sox?! :rotfl:

we ended up going to the game on friday night and I was surprised to see so many oakland fans there. were you there on friday? whereabouts were you sitting? hope you had a great trip!
