Going to an Eighties themed b'day party...

Got my outfit and makeup all picked out. Only worry is the hair. Any tips on how to get my bangs do do those poof ball bangs that were like a koosh ball on the forehead? It was a little before my time.
How would you do your hair?

I didn't do big bangs in teh 80s (and it WAS my time) and I have not done them for parties since either. I do a side ponytail with a big, colorful scrunchie.

All you do is use a curling iron and curl the bangs toward the back- except for those in the very front, you curl those under. Fluff them with your fingers. Then (to be authentic) you need to use LOTS of aquanet hairspray.

Aqua Net hair spray. Lots and lots of Aqua Net. We used to tease, spray, tease and really spray it. LOL

I went to an 80's themed Halloween party and did a side ponytail. It was way better on the ozone layer.

Use some mousse on the bangs first, not a lot, but it will help them with the "lift"...don't forget to wear your Calvin Klein Obsession perfume...omg, EVERYONE was wearing that scent in the 80's!

I second the Auqanet. Curl your bangs. Spray. Let them dry. Then Curl again and slightly 'tease' and 'pick' to get them to stay up.

Can you tell I did this a time or two????

Good point, you must spray directly AFTER the curl.... then a bit of "fluff" then more spray.

When I had my bangs back in the day...

I would separate them into upper and lower. Spritz some hairspray, curl each section under and voila! Instant height. Separate and fluff as necessary, then spray the carp out of them using Rave, level 4.

I could have walked through an F5 tornado and they wouldn't have moved.

in our area we did the teasing thing too.... but you had to make sure it was teased in a nice way...... you tease it straight up and out then make sure you have bangs on your forhead and such in a even way and such. so when people saw you they saw your bangs were very very high and not a single hair was out of place.....would have ponytails really high and that would irritate my mother to no end. People braided their hair a lot too and when they <me too> would do that you would see the braid from behind and the giant bangs stinking strait up of course.

Big hair wasn't all that popular here until the early 90's. If I went to an Eighties party I would pull out the Izod polo, iron/starch the collar so it stayed up (pop your collar), put on some khaki's along with my argyle socks and penny loafers. If it is cold, a button up white shirt with a Ralph Lauren sweater, pink with the green horse. A bob haircut would be perfectly acceptable too.

I have very fine straight hair and without a perm big hair was difficult! Spraying while hanging your head upside down was a help though!

You should see smoke rising off your hair.

Ponytail high on the head or a side ponytail on the very side middle of the head. Poufy bangs are easy!! Split bangs in half. top section get curled backwards (Use the smallest curling iron you can) the bottom section gets curled under. Spray them with hairspray like crazy then fluf them out!! What are you wearing!!!

NOT everyone......

I would do the side pony. Not everyone did the big bangs....I HATED the big bangs.
