We previously had the benefit of going at a very uncrowded time of year, right after Thanksgiving with perfect weather. This year we will be going either in July or August. I have some questions: Which of the two months may be less crowded? Is the heat pretty much the same for either (both) months? How are the mosquitos this time of year? Isn't this hurricane season?
We love the FW cabins for our family of 5, however won't go unless a discount code becomes available. If that doesn't happen, any ideas on a good hotel near WDW? Thanks to all for any feedback you can offer!

:earsboy: WELCOME to the DIS sutlee!!! :earsboy:

Let's see if I can help you out a bit! I've been a few times in July,my DH Joe lived in Florida for years and just happens to be on the phone right now with our friend who works at WDW so I've gotten some help with these answers! :sunny:

Which of the two months may be less crowded? I think by mid August crowds will be a little bit less as some schools are starting back by then. I think my DS Erich starts around Aug11 this year.

Is the heat pretty much the same for either (both) months?
The opinion is Aug. is cooler as more rain and storms come through that month.

How are the mosquitos this time of year?
They have been bad in the past years ( pools closing at dusk) and have heard of other Disers being bothered by them but I've never had a problem with them while being there in July. Maybe they don't like me! :teeth:

Isn't this hurricane season?
Yes! Hurricane season begins June 1st and goes through Nov.Last year was a very UNUSUAL hurricane season TG...so you really can't base anything on it.

I hope I've helped you out a little! ::MickeyMo

All I can add to that is that I have always gone in July and have NEVER even seen a mosquito ;) It is hot but we always take rest/swimming breaks!! And the evenings are nice

We went in July '03 and we're going again this July....it is HOT HOT HOT, but I don't remember any mosquito problems. If I could go another time, I certainly WOULD, but I'd rather be hot in Disney than not be there at all.

I have been in July and August and both months are hot and both months have rain and both are in Hurricaine season - that said Last year was the only time I actually experienced a Hurricane in WDW (Charlie) - I would choice the last 2 weeks of August because Most schools in the southern US are back in session. As far as Mosquitos go I have never been bothered by them in WDW - But I do bring bug spray and us it after dusk.

Are you looking for a place w/ a full kitchen or just a sm dorm fridge, microwave and coffee maker? Do you need to stay on property or will you have access to a car? I have stayed at the EMbassy Suites near Universal - They were clean had a sep. bdrm and a kitchenette - they also had free brfst buffett every morning which was OK. I have also stayed at WEstgate Lakes resort and spa(5miles to WDW) through HOTWIRE lovely - but they are a timeshare place and will ask the average person to attend a presentation(sales pitch) for an upgrade or free stay later etc. Since ours was through hotwire they asked once at CI and I never heard boo again.

If you can chance it - Hotwire dies have some gd deals the only Problem - you don't know were you are staying until AFTER you purchase and its NON REFUNDABLE OR TRANSFERABLE. But you can search out set areas of Orlando - ie: near WDW or US/IOA etc and the hotels/some condos offered will be in that area - Yet to be more than 5 miles from a destination(I use it for 1 -2 night stays sometimes to save wknd pts of our DVC)

Which leads to another option - you could HOTWIRE a fri and sat night stays in a ubit w/ a kitchenette then for the Sun-Thurs night stays rent points from a dvcer on the rent trade board here on the Dis - people are always looking to rent(NOT ME I use them all!)

A week (7 nights) AT OKW resort in the last 2 weeks of AUG cost 196pts - which equals $1960.00(av person rents at $10/pt) or only Sun - Thurs nights at 100pts costing $1000.00 for the 5 night stay. and find a local hotel for FRI/SAT night either at the start or end of your trip.

Thank you everyone for your replies....great information! We will probably go the first two weeks in August, although I will push it out further if possible. We will be driving down from NY so we'll have the car. Will check out the MYW tickets and packages. Love these boards...thanks again!
