Greetings fellow Disney friends...

My family and I are going to be going to Disney in the last week of August and I have been searching for flights (Buffalo to Orlando) and the best rate I have seen (through JetBlue) is ~225.

I am hoping to get some feedback on if this is a "acceptable" rate?

I have seen other posts that indicate that the cost of flights from Buffalo to Orlando was significantly cheaper. However, the date on the posts create was from a year or more ago.

Based on fuel costs, time of the year traveling, does anyone have any feeling if better rate is possible? If this is the status-quo, I will be happy to make the purchase but I am somewhat reluctant based on others posts on the cost of tickets they have gotten.

My gut feeling is that this is the going rate and "it is what it is".

Does anyone have any experience with either JetBlue or Southwest? Do seat sales ever come up?

Thanks in advance...

Chris

I just booked Southwest, direct flights from BUF to MCO and I paid just over $300/tkt. We are going in May though. I looked at many, many fares and airlines this week and they were the cheapest. Air Tran offered about the same deal but they were not direct flights and Southwest is the only airline I saw that allowed 2 free bags per passenger (if you add the cost of baggage, the other carriers are even more expensive!)

SWA apparently offers seat sales sometimes but as you said, with the rising cost of fuel, it may not happen this year!

Good luck!

We often travel the end of August. The most I have paid so far for a direct non stop flight is $79 each way. I usually book around May or June.

Everyones comfort level is different so the general rule is that when you see a fare that you are happy with you should book it. I have no issue waiting out the airfares because my DH prefers to drive so if we don't get the right price on the air we will drive.....lucky for me I usually find it. :thumbsup2

Make sure that you are looking at all the carriers, not just SW and JB.

I booked with Air Tran Feb 9 for Aug 21-27 direct flights from BUF to MCO for $259/pp total. The same flights today $566.40/pp. Once the seats are sold in that category price range then they go to the next category so the price goes up. Some airlines tell how many seats are left in that price.

We have only flown once with Southwest. You can not book your seats. When you do 24 hour advance checkin, they give you a A,B,C and a number that is the order of boarding. You can pay $10/pp/each way, they give you early booking number so you don't have to do it 24 hours in advance. Once onboard, you pick your seat. They do have 2 bags free.

With Southwest, if you see a cheaper price for you flight, you can change it to the cheaper price and get a credit to be used up to 1 year from your first booking date with no change fee.

We also go in the end of August and use Buffalo. I was not comfortable waiting this year. I don't think we are going to see anything close to the $79 fares we used to see. This is for a few reasons. I have been watching the flights closely due to a few trips and it has gone up, up, up for about a year now, with a dramatic increase this last little while.
Long story short.. I booked out of Detroit. Further drive for us but got a non-stop for all four of us for under 800 on Airtran.

check kayak.com. They compile a bunch of airlines, and prices once you put in your travel dates. They'll check nearby airports, on both ends too.
They don't have SW though, so you'll need to check those fares separately.
I checked everyday for over 2 weeks until I got what I thought was a reasonable price for our return flight.

I cringe when I see prices now because until this year I have never paid more than $200 return. A few summers ago we paid $387 return for our family of 4! ($39 each way). Those days are long gone but even if you pay $250 it's still cheaper than flying out of Toronto.

You need to be flexible and not limit yourself to Buffalo because more Canadians have discovered the savings of flying out of the US. You should also check flights out of Rochester, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Youngstown, Ohio. We just flew out of Youngstown Ohio for march break and got fares of $44.00 each way for March break. Paid a total of $496.00 for 4 tickets into St. Petersburgh Clearwater airport with Allegiant. Just took a carry on bag for the week and opted for open seating (got seats together no problem) so we didn't pay the extra fees.

We usually figure $200 or less is better. Last May we went for $59 each way but I haven't seen anything like that in a long time. Also the dollar is above par right now so that's a 10%-20% savings over a couple years ago. So if flights were $150 USD you added another 20% for exchange.

Make sure to take a look at Toronto fares too...

I needed 2 one way fares to Orlando for May..Jetblue and SW were $244 pp one way. AC just cost me $156 for the day I needed.
:confused3

Yes if you travel midweek you will get good deals from TO but since I had to travel on a weekend, leaving from Buffalo was my only option. AC was just too expensive on the weekend...it doubled the price for the 4 tickets I needed.

I paid $124 plus tax each way on SW for May and that is a weekend fare...also they do not charge for luggage. When you have multiple people, the baggage charges add up!

We paid $59 last year this year 140. I am hoping they go down in price and I canuse the credit for another trip

As long as you don't mind the crazy flight time, Spirit Airlines flies out of Niagara for $59 per way!!

We fly JetBlue out of Buffalo. We love their schedule (early departure from BUF, late departure from MCO coming back) so we don't really lose any days travelling. Those are also direct flights, 1 free bag per person. The service has always been good, and my kids love having their own tv's to watch. You pre-select your seats at booking (online). If fares go down, you get a credit. We usually pay around $1000 for our family of four (total).
Flying from Toronto was about $1800 (over half of which was TAX)!

We like to keep it under $200 each way. It depends on time of year, March Break we paid $1000 and that was good for that time of year. In the summer, I would expect to pay much less, like $100-$150 each way. You have to stalk the site. As soon as they reduce the ticket prices you have to pounce.

I paid $114/ticket from BUF to MCO with Southwest on a direct flight. We are going in May, and I bought the tickets at the end of Feb. just before the fuel prices started to soar.

I was watching the prices daily and this was the lowest that I saw it go in the new year. I was going to hold out longer, but really glad that I didn't!

I think you should take the $225 for August. It's so hard to predict. I'm thinking that the Southwest/Airtran merger is only gonig to push prices up.

Looks like flights from BUF have dropped to $89 each way during the last weeks of August.

Depart Tues or Wed.

This is on AirTran

Proces change constantly. Both southwest and jet blue offer sales although we prefer jet blue because the planes are far nicer. Last september we paid $74 each way per person on southwest. Went again in january for the same price on jet blue. I would pull the trigger anywhere below $84 each way. That is for a direct flight. Prices change constantly, today they dropped quite a bit for september but not far enough yet. I just keep watching. Also it should be noted that if the fares drop even further you can call jetblue or southwest and they will give you a refund of the differance in the form of credit towards your next flight. Also the prices i listed were for friday flights, not mid week

We are also watching prices like hawks right now.

I wish I could pull the trigger on the directair flights to lakeland but I am nervous about no car rental!
