When we were at Magic Kingdom we realized that they took down this one "ride", it wasn't very much of a ride, I guess, but it is similar to the Ski Lift at Blizzard Beach, but it was more enclosed. What was the name of this and what happened to it/why did they take it down/????

Also, just for fun.... anyone seen photos of DCA's Tower of Terror? Am I the only one who thinks that is a little too, I guess... modern and to much like a regular building that hasn't gone into the Twighlight Zone?? I personally think it looks to "perfect" Anyone else agree??

Thanks for all your help!!:worship:

Is it the Skyway to TOmorrowland? That may not be the "official" name, but it was in a gondola-type vehicle, and you can still see the towers that they were suspended from (at least last time I went you could).

That all I can think of too!
I miss that "ride":wave2:

Does anyone know why they took it down???

THanks for the speedy replies!!!

I heard the DL was taken down due to earthquake concerns:confused: It seems like there may have been some injury/accident on the WDW, but that may have been a rumor:confused:

It was called Skyway to tomorrowland and the one going the other way was Skyway to Fantasyland.
I have many of the old Birnbaum books since I collect them and they seem to be handy in situations where you can't remember something that is long gone.

I remember hearing some years back that a CM fell off this ride I think while working on it and died. Don't know if that is the reason it was taken down or not.

nosey is right, a CM died working on this ride. It was also a slow loader so I think they wanted to get rid of it anyway. I used to love it. We are going to Busch Gardens Williamsburg in June and their web site says they still have one. I guess I will see when we go. How could some parks still have them if the safety code is so difficult to meet? How could ski resorts even still use them?

the NY state fair also got rid of theirs (after many years) stating that is was not safe.

Mrs JHenry,
I'm also in CNY
I live just minutes from Carousel Center.
What about you?
Lori

Yes, it closed immediately after the CM died. It was a custodial CM and this happened when the park was closed at the Tomorrowland station. Very tragic.

WOW Disneyfreaknjw, you must have really loved that ride! ...loved that ride! ...loved that ride!

I'm not sure of all the details, but the Skyride in Tomorrowland was closed because either Orange County, or California, passed a bill mandating that all rides offer equal access to handicapped guests. It was decided by the suits at Disney that it was not worth the effort or money to modify the attraction. To allow access to wheel chair bound guests would have meant stopping the ride, and that, although possible, was not desirable.

The accessibility issue was also one of the factors in closing the Subs. High maintenance costs and new air pollution standards were also part of the decision to sink the attraction.

Like I said, I may not have or remember all the details. It was a long time ago.

Now you know the rest of the story... at least what I remember.
