im going next week (5/19-26) with a 17 month old, will i really need a stroller fan and a extended stoller shade (im taking my graco quattro tour....no comments please!:lovestruc)

ive been in the begining of may and it was perfect not to to hot, will the end of may be different? accuweather said high 80's low 90's

i plan on dressing her in those one piece tank dresses from carters (they snap like a onsie)...figured they would be easy and cool enough?

does that sound ok or should i really get the fan etc...

thanks!

I dont know about you - but im packing for hot weather, we leave friday and we will be there when you are! :yay: im so excited! anyways, I got 3 of those mini fans at walmart for $1.50 each and I saw the mister ones for $6... I think youd rather have one and not need it than have to pay Disney prices for a fan?

See you next week at the world!:rotfl:

It has been hotter than normal here this month. I would plan on it being quite hot and mostly sunny. So yes, I would definately bring that sun shade extender for the stroller (I assume you mean the kiddapotomus one, love it!). A stoller fan sounds like a good idea. Remember the Florida sun is much "brighter" and more damaging than it is up north and as I mentioned already we have been having hotter than normal temps and some of the heat indexes have gotten into the low 100's. Very little rain to cool things off and a LOT of sunshine. Hot sunshine.

At least here on the coast we get a nice seabreeze to make things more comfortable but in WDW you are surrounded by a lot of blacktop that absorbs heat and the seabreeze usually does not reach that far inland.

We are going in 18 days and I will definately be providing my baby with the extended sun shade. I don't have one of the stroller fans but just might have to consider getting one. We usually use the fan that will spray a mist of water as sometimes a fan will just blow around hot air making it worse.

And don't worry about the Graco Quattro Tour. That is what I use too! I like the extra room for baby as well as the big basket for our things. The two deep cup holders, two storage compartments and the time/temperature comfort features make it worth taking. Don't forget the stroller rain shield as well! We are just starting to get a good chance of rain popping up during the afternoon/early evenings. Have fun!

i got the mister fans for the older kids but i know the baby wont be able to use that (i can picture me misting her every once in a while and then her having a tantrum when i stop or when i dont let her hold it LOL)

i read about the ones that clip on the strollers here but they are around $20 if i remember correctly, im just not sure if i really need to invest in one.

with the baby im always concerned if she will be too hot or too cold, never just right!

i do have the rain cover, my theory is when i lug it to the park it never rains, but when i leave it back in the room it does! LOL

thanks for the advice, i guess i will be making a last minute run to babies r us

i do have the rain sheild, my theory is when i lug it to the park it doesnt rain! LOL

i guess i do not expect the sun/temps to be different then here in philly, im going to go ahead and invest in one. thanks for the advice.

i love my gracco! when i was thinking of getting a mac i was looking at all the attachments i would want (cup holders, hanging bag etc...) and i figured i might as well keep my gracco, i love it! good thing i have a strapping 14 y/o son who will carry it on and off the bus for me!

thanks again (PS thought that previous post deleted on me...hmmmm)

May is always a very dry month (usually has wildfires due to the lack of rain), and it is warmer than you would think. I think the stroller fan is a nice idea, and liquids TONS of liquids!!! Kids dehydrate so quickly in the heat, especially the Florida heat. You may also want to bring a cool rag and keep it in your diaper bag for her if you plan on touring during the hottest parts of the day.

You made me laugh when I realized how right you are about the baby having a tantrum because you won't let her control it all by herself! My little one would do the same thing. We are approaching the terrible twos and it is becoming a tidal wave of screaming and tantrums! :lmao:

If you do get the stroller fan please let us know how it works out. I have always wondered how well it would work,if it would get knocked off or fall down easily, if the baby would even leave it alone or constantly have to 'touch' it, and if it is really worth the money that it costs. Thanks!

My husband and I just got back last night from a quick 3 day trip. It is pretty hot. In the shade it is great but, anytime you are out in the sun it gets very hot, very quickly.

When our kids were little we always had a stroller fan and an extendable sun shade. There is no doubt we would have been using it the past few days if we had a baby with us.

Another tip, I am sure you have thought of it. A sun hat! I can't even begin to count how many little ones we saw without a hat out in the bright sun. Not only were they rubbing their eyes from the sun, there were a few that you could tell had sunburn.:guilty:

The only rain we had was yesterday as we were getting back to OKW for Magical Express. It was actually quite a nasty storm with lightning, thunder and really heavy rain. Quite a few flights were delayed leaving MCO. If you don't have a rain cover for your stroller, I would suggest getting an extra poncho for it, just in case. Nothing worse then a wet stroller.

Have a great trip!:goodvibes

We got back Sunday night after a week long stay. It was definitely hot. 90's the entire time with no rain. Although I heard that it did rain yesterday, perhaps that will help with the heat. Anyways, it was hot, especially in the sun. I would bring both...it certainly couldn't hurt! Have a fantastic vacation!!! :)

I don't think you'll need a fan. We were there in April and it got hot a couple of days (in the 80s). We dressed DD6mo in tanks, shorts, tees and kept her covered in sunscreen and the shade on the stroller.

If you are that worried about it, take them, try them one day in the park and decide if you really want to drag it along. My personal motto on our trip was the less, the better. Especially with the hassle of breaking strollers down for transporation.

my friend just got back from wdw yesterday. they only spent one day in the parks (mk) because it was 95 and they were all way too hot - especially the kids. to quote the father "hot and sweaty = cranky kids". their daughter is only 2.5. i would definitely bring whatever you can to keep your kids comfortable and don't forget to bring the hats and sunscreen as well!

Hi - We are going the 2nd week of June; so I had a question about the canopy extension everyone is talking about. We have a mac quest (although I might get something else before the trip) so can you fold up your stroller with the extender still on? Our ds will be about 16 months old this trip and seems to be outgrowing the mac already. Any suggestions for another stroller? We'll still need recline though.

We have a Graco and it will fold up with it although I don't like to do this and will usually take the time to take it off before we fold it. I just would rather it lasted longer so I try to take care of it. I don't know what a mac quest is so I can't give you advice for it.

The kiddopotomus sun shield is made of a slickish cloth with a metal bar on the edge of the shield to keep it's shape and block the sun on the edge of the sunshield. I just pulled mine out and noticed I am going to have to try and run it through the washer as some animal has decided to mark it. :headache:So much for me trying to take care of it. Hopefully it will wash well. Don't worry, I love my animals I just wish they didn't feel so 'territorial'. :sad2:

We used the Rayshade during our trip last Oct and it was a lifesaver!!!! The temps were only in the 80's but the sun was blazing hot and DD has very fair skin. Even though we put sunblock on her, we didn't want to take any chance of her getting too much exposure. The Rayshade folds right up with the stroller. For the times when she wanted to nap, we'd pull the shade almost all the way down so that she was in total darkness and it helped block out some noise too.

Here's DD's stroller with the shade pulled down (not all the way) and then with it folded back. Sorry it's so big, the photo site won't let me re-size from this pc.

I second the Rayshade, we just got back from 10 days at the world and it was in the 90's. Looooved the Rayshade, my daughter was very comfortable at all times. Saw a lot of kids with no shade or the tiny regular shades that were as red as tomatoes. The attendant at the Baby center mentioned that they get a lot of babies with sunburn everyday at the first aid and the parents were clueless as to why it would happen :confused3

Thanks - great pics! Im off to target to get our rayshade!

Glad the pics are helpful!

I feel horrible whenever I see little ones in strollers with little to no shade - just makes me cringe!
Remember - even on hazy days, people and babies can get badly burned!

thank you for all your opinions, i will invest in them, your right i want to do everything possible to avoid a cranky baby!

i have sun hats but i do not envision her leaving one on for long, and although my kids are bi-racial and dark(er) skinned i am always sunscreening, i burn so i spray everyone down everytime we stop at the bathroom.

phew 6 days left, i can not wait!

Also, be sure to leave the back of your stroller open a bit to allow air to flow through. Our canopy snaps to the back of the seat but we always leave at least one snap undone and tuck that corner of the canopy under so that there's an opening for airflow.

ETA - the humidity at the end of May can be excessive too so be sure to make good use of the baby care centers - they are air conditioned and a great way to escape the heat and hectic pace of the parks. Even if it's not too warm the humidity can be tough to deal with, especially for little lungs. We walked through many stores to get some relief from the heat too.
