Ok, we decided to move our trip up to August we usually go in May but we were going to go in December............We were all have Disney with drawl so decided to move it up.....

Any advise for those hot days or what to pack (we drive) if you go during Hurrican season.

I'm sure you know this, but it'll be hot. Hot, hot, hot! Go to a supermarket and buy plenty of bottled water.

Either pack a lot of clothes, or plan on doing laundry a few times during your trip. We were there in Aug. 05 and went through 2 outfits each every day. Bringing your own laundry supplies will save you money. Target sells travel sized liquid Tide for 99 cents.

Have fun planning your trip!

We liked having the spray mist bottles with the fan. I bought them at Walmart before we went and it helped cool us down. We too went through two outfits a day, so plan accordingly. Plan on a midday break, it's just too hot to do anything. We would go to the pool with the kids, even though the water was like bathwater, it still helped.

I recommend just going with the right attitude. I told myself "Yes, it's going to be HOT and humid but just accept it, and don't complain about it," lol! We ended up having a great time!! Have fun!!!

We went last August (24-29) and we knew it would be hot, but we figured it would be hot anywhere you go in August. Looking back it really wasn't too bad. The lines were incredibly not bad/barely there (PM me if you want to know the details of how we lucked out with the crowds). And you're going in and out of air conditioned rides, it's not like you're sitting outside allll day long. We took lots of water and usually took a break and went back to the hotel around noon/1ish Then headed out again later in the afternoon. It's all all about how you plan the day. Don't worry you're not crazy for going then lol :thumbsup2

I'm happy to hear all of this since we are also going in August (8/21-8/27). This is our first time traveling to WDW in the summer and I was very worried about the 3 H's (heat, humidity and hurricanes!). :sunny: We just couldn't pass up the free dining! I told my DH that we have to go with the attitude that we cannot possibly see everything and that we have to take a midday break. My feeling is it's better to be in Disney (even if it's hot) than anywhere else! :woohoo:

Have a great trip!!

I'm more worried about the crowds than the heat. I hope everyone and their brother wont be in Disney for the free dining. We will be there 8/22-29.
Last October we went for the free dining and it was not supposed to be crowded that time of year and it was!

Okay what we did when we went to avoid the crowds (also during August free dining period last year) was first skip all the extra magic hours night. We then went to the park that had EMH the night before the next morning (does that make sense) So if MK had EMH on a thursday we went to MK on Friday morning. It worked out GREAT!!! There were barely any lines for any of the rides. Then we'd head back to the hotel around mid-day and then go to any of the parks during the afternoon, depending on where we ate dinner. We were honestly pleasantly surpised at how great this worked out. Hope this helps, lemme know if you have any questions or anything about what I just wrote. :wizard:

We used to go in the summer all the time. Its hot, but everything has A/c unlike our house in Massachusetts were it was hot and we had NO A/C.

Just go to the parks early(take advantage of all the EMH mornings)- and plan on doing indoor things in the afternoon. Also plan to eat a late sit down lunch in the afternoon to relax and get refreshed.

Since the parks are open later- go back and enjoy your resort and head to the parks at closing. In fact you can always take advantage of the EMH Evenings and stay out to 12-1 every night. Most of the little ones will be gone by then and the parks may be fairly empty. When we went Presidents week everyone was gone by 10;15 (right after wishes- we had the whole park to ourselves).

Florida is hot in the summer, but Disney also has many water attractions in the parks to keep you cool, (the jumping fountains, Donalds boat, Kali Rapids, Sp Mt, etc. )

about the hurricanes--- Orlando was picked because historically hurricanes don't usually hit the Orlando area ( but the weather is unpredicatible lately)
If a hurricane does hit Orlando is far enough inland that the storm would weaken - so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

I always loved going the end of August/Sept-- the crowds are lighter, the weather is great (you can swim) and the parks stay open late. Enjoy~~

Thanks for all the tips!! We are going in August (13-19th) and I am petrified of the weather! We get hot and humid here in OH but I know it's nothing like FL. We had planned to take advantage of all the EMH and rest or just cool off in the middle of the day! I just hope the crowds aren't too bad!

PONCHOES

Make sure you pick them up at a dollar store or target before you go! So much cheaper and if you throw them away they were only a buck!

Also hydrate hydrate hydrate!

We are going in August as well and I'm goin crazy!!!!

I'm looking forward to going to Orlando in August! It will be so nice to get away from the 115+ degrees that our summers have :( I have family that lives in Orlando, and they can't stand the heat where I live. The last time they were here, one girl ended up passing out because they weren't used to the temperature.

Drink lots and lots and lots of liquids! I tend to forget this :P I also have an allergy to the sun, and it makes me have horrid headaches and I can't wear shorts. I wear jeans/pants all summer long (I totally live in the wrong area). Excedrine Migraine helps out with the heat headaches, don't forget to pack some!
One thing to remember about heat is where your cooling spots are. Put something cold on your wrists, and on your head. I've seen the cool neck things that you soak in water and then put on your neck? Anyways, I've seen those for wrists. That might be a great idea. I've also seen hats with the same stuff in them.
Also, the cooling down of the body happens when moisture evaporates off the skin. So try a misting fan, but then try it without the water; run just the fan, and see how that makes you feel. The problems that people have in the humid areas are because it's humid (obviously) which means that water isn't evaporating into the air. By using the fan dry, it should help with that. Try both, see what works best for ya!

we always go in late august and love it as the crowds are low and lines short. Even last year, with free dining, it was not much more crowded, if at all.

The only difference we really noticed was that the table service places seemed more busy. Just drink plenty of water, get there early, bring a poncho for the daily thundershower and wear a hat. Also, look at the advice in the unoffial guide on best days, they rarely miss.
