Hello everyone! This is my very first post on the Disboards, so this is all new to me. Please forgive me if I make a mistake. I am planning a trip with my family for late October (20th-28th) 2014, and could use a little help. So far I think I'm doing okay, but I'm stuck on October 23rd. I've planned for us to rope drop Epcot that day, with an ADR at Beaches and Cream for 4:30, but we wanted to head over to Hollywood Studious after, then back to Epcot for Illuminations. Is that even possible? Would it even be worth our time to go to Hollywood Studios, if we want to see Illuminations? TIA for any help!

If you finish at Beaches and Cream around 5:30p (maybe even a little earlier) and take the boat or walk to DHS you should be there by 6pm. You would have to leave by 8pm to make sure you got back to Epcot in time to find a spot to watch Illuminations. You could probably make it if you left at 8:30pm but it would be a rush and I personally would be making myself crazy at that point.

Depending on what you want to do at DHS, two hours could be worth it. Last time I hopped from DHS to Epcot just to see Impressions de France and have a glass of champagne, then turned around and got the boat back to DHS to meet up with my family again.

You can walk or take the boat. Either way will take you about 20 to 30 minutes.

The walk itself is 20-25 minutes, the boat will be about 25-30 but you have to add on the wait for the boat meaning it could get close to an hour.

I personally timed the following:

Bus from Epcot to DHS: 15 minutes
Boat from Epcot to DHS: 30 minutes, low season, 40 minutes, high season
Walk from Epcot to DHS: 30-40 minutes*

Same times when reversed.

*Do not attempt this walk in extremely hot weather or without good walking shoes.

Thank you everyone! I think we're going to try it and see how it goes. I just wasn't sure in real time how long it would take to get between the 2 parks, and now I know. I think a couple hours at Hollywood Studios would be worth it, especially since we do plan on going there again another day. I can't wait to go, I wish it was October already! :hourglass

And...

:welcome: to posting on the DISboards, SunflowerSky1!

You can also see if you can get a FP+ for viewing Illuminations, but, you would need to do all your FP+ for Epcot for that day, however you can hope you get two early ones as well as Illuminations, so you can do them before heading off to B&C (yum) and then you can head over to DHS if you wish or even just stay on the Boardwalk and chill out and resort hop the resorts there. Both the boat and the walk are highly recommended, if you think time is an issue getting back to Epcot from DHS walk if there is no sign of the boat, I did it last trip and beat the boat to Epcot from DHS.

Don't know how you are planning your FPs, but you may want to line up a couple at DHS for those hours. Otherwise, you may get over there and not have time to do much. You can almost always get in the Muppets 3D and maybe Voyage of the Little Mermaid, but rides may be tough to squeeze in if lines are long.

I wouldn't do that, since it would prevent you from getting any FP+ for DHS, where they'll be way more useful. Finding a decent spot to see Illuminataions isn't difficult.

I second this advice.

You've gotten great advice here already. I will just add that we love using the International Gateway exit from EPCOT and catching the boat to HS and vice versa. The boat gives you a nice chance to rest your feet and it is our favorite way to travel when it is offered.

But don't forget about waiting time too, which for either the bus or the boat could be up to 20 minutes or more. (No waiting for walking.)

Also NB that the boat or walking will take you to Epcot's IG entrance, while the bus will take you to the main Epcot entrance (all three options leave from the same spot at DHS).

I believe the boats run Epcot-Boardwalk-Y/B Club-Swandolphin-DHS. If you miss a boat at one just go to the next and wait. We are doing a November trip staying at the Beach Club Villas. We love to ride the boat to DHS.

We were planning on hitting Epcot at rope drop, get the headliners done in the morning, then spending the afternoon exploring the World Showcase, and using FP's for DHS. The only glitch in my plan is I can probably only book 2 FP's before having to head back to Epcot...:confused3
