Going from ddp to qs dp- will I regret it?

This last trip to wdw we had free dining as usual. I'm thinking of doing a room discount next year instead of free dining .

Having always had the ddp will I miss the ts aspect? We will either do qs dp or all oop. I imagine we would schedule one character meal oop still.

I just felt this last time the character interactions were hectic and stressful and just not pleasant. The only one my girls seemed to enjoy was CRT - the princesses still gave us a nice reception but everywhere else the characters seemed In a rush to hit the tables and be done .

Between that and the stress of making it to our ADR each day I just don't know if I want to deal with ts.

Have any of you made the switch from ddp to just qs and regretted it?

I've only been on the dining plan once (because it was "free") and we had one character dining and a couple buffets. The character dining was fun enough (Crystal Palace lunch) but I agree, the characters do seem a bit rushed and with good reason, of course. However, I don't think you'll regret not having that many table services. They can definitely add up, especially oop, and if we weren't on the free plan we wouldn't have done so many on our last trip.

I like a lot of the QS restaurants in the Magic Kingdom. Cosmic Ray's is definitely a favorite and the toppings bar at Pecos Bill can't be beat.

I'm sure whatever decision you make you'll be happy either way. :)

I personally cannot go to disney and not do one TS each day. For my son and I, its part of the fun. I tried doing QS one year but switched quickly to DDP after realising how much i'd miss TS. :)

To each his own thou right?

We have never done the Disney Dining Plan, but we have cut back drastically on our number of TS meals (multiple character meals to one a trip; one TS a day to several favorites a trip) and we enjoy the time and flexibility that we've gained. We have several favorite CS places (Flame Tree BBQ and Sunshine Seasons spring to mind) and eating CS in World Showcase allows us all to enjoy our favorite cuisine without complaints from the less-adventurous members of our party.

DH and I have had the DDP 3 times (all free). While we liked it the plan, it does not really match up well with the way I like to eat (appetizer and salad in place of entree.) We have been back 2 weeks from our 4th FD trip but this time it was the QSDP. We had considered upgrading to the regular DDP but decided against it. This was a 9 night trip and we did eat at 2 TS places and 1 signature. The rest of our meals were CS and we loved it. We ate at WPE, Cookes of Dublin, EoS, the POR food court, Contempo Cafe, our own food court at POP and various places in the parks. We also had LOTS of snack credits to use at places like F&W. I don't think that I would ever pay for any DDP but I definitely would do the (free) QSDP again and would not upgrade.

I'm with her;The TS meals are all part of the experience/fun for us too;and the fact that we go during FD makes it that much better.;) CS is fine for lunch, but we like to have a nice dinner each night of our vacation. You know your family,so do what you guys like!:goodvibes

I agree completely. We did TS for dinner for 7 straight nights in August and it was definitely a big part of the overall vacation experience.

Same here! Just earlier this week I was actually debating downgrading to the qsdp for our upcoming trip. The more I thought about the more I got to thinking that eating at these great restaurants is such a big part of our trips. We really look forward to that 1 sit down meal every day. And our trip is 10 days, I just don't think that for a trip that long that i'd enjoy qsdp.

I can't say you won't regret it but it sure sounds like it's time to see how you like being freed of those ADRs. ;) If you end up missing TS, go back to your normal routine next time, but how will you ever know whether you prefer the QS plan without trying it? Also, you know you're getting frustrated with TS, so if you don't give QS a try and if things go a bit wonky with the regular DDP, then you're going to regret that. So I say, give the QS plan a shot. :thumbsup2

We found eating at QS places more stressful than making ADRs. Waiting in line to order, waiting for your food, scoping out a table, carrying all your food, making sure you have all your condiments/straws/napkins, sitting down then going back to get the condiments you missed, etc. And we are two adults - I can't imagine doing that with kids for all meals my whole trip. We ate QS to save time when needed but we always looked forward to a relaxing TS dinner. Plus it seemed like we were always hungry when everyone else was - no place to sit at DHS Pizza Planet, had to sit on a brick wall and Cosmic Rays was packed at MK at 8:30pm - we thought we would have missed the dinner rush.

To each he's own is right...we're a family that doesn't like too many TS's and one a day is tough for our kids. We've done regular DDP and after a few days they are complaining about having to sit down for another dinner. Our kids feel like the TS takes time away from swimming, parks, DQ, golf etc.... They rather be doing.

Anyway I do make several TS's for a stay like maybe three or four at the most for a 9 - 10 day stay. We usually do one character meal and maybe a dinner show like HDDR and then one or two others. That seems the perfect amount for our gang.

We did QSDP last Christmas and it worked out great as far as eating when we wanted to and where, however it was way too much dessert and snacks for us. Now it was fun being able to order dessert at every lunch and dinner but with two snacks a day in addition to that was way too much. We used a slew of snack credits for Mickey rice krispie treats to take home. Anyway this next time we are going oop with mostly cs and four TS's. For what we normally order even with snacks it'll be cheaper. We always eat breakfast in the room.
