Hi guys,
We are going to WDW the third week of Sept. (Sept.16th-23rd)? Can anyone tell me what WDW is like during that time, (crowds, weather, etc....) Would love to know, I am trying to avoid heavy crowds more than anything, I know that once my DS starts school in a few years, we will have to do summertime, so I am trying to go later while I can.

My DH and I have been to WDW 3 times and we always went in Sept. We have never waited in line for anything for more then 10 min. Alot of times we just walk right on to things. It is usually hot. The only thing you need to worry about is hurricanes (spelling :confused3 ) cancelling your trip. It also rains almost every day in Sept. for a little bit. The rain never stopped us from doing the things we wanted, just put on a poncho and go. Hope this helped alittle

We love, love, love September (see previous trips below). We have always had great weather with very little or no rain. It can still be hot, but not intolerable. As the previous poster said, wait times for rides are minimal. Especially for the "big" rides. The rides in Fantasyland have the longest wait times in the entire resort. So I would recommend hitting those first thing. In my opinion, the CM's are much better during the off season than during peak.

AWESOME!!!! THANKS SO MUCH YOU GUYS......You have just made me want September to get here all the more quicker.......YIPPEE....I CANNOT WAIT!!!!
:woohoo: :woohoo:

Others have said about the rain. Just get some cheap ponchos or rainsuits before you go and you'll be fine. Carry them with you every day, even if you wake up to sunshine. From your original post, sounds like you will have a stroller. Take a plastic tablecloth or something similar to drape over the stroller. You don't really want your child coming back to a soaked stroller. Pack a few clothespins to help out.

One other thing. Be prepared for the Love Bugs. These are harmless black "flies" that always travel in pairs. They are "attached" to each other. They will be there. They are not dangerous but are extremely friendly. Just realized that and let them live their very short lives. They have only one thing in mind and they do that flying through the air every September.

Other than that, you'll have a great time! Waits are short, temps are warmer and all the kids are back in school. You'll have a wonderful visit.

I love September in Disney World!

In typical type A personality, my pros and cons of visiting in September:

Pros
  • The CROWDS! (or lack thereof). Even though n the past couple of years, its felt like there's more people than a few Septembers ago, we rarely waited for anything. And when we did, it wasn't more than 15 miutes.
  • SPECIALS! SPECIALS! SPECIALS! Not only are resort rates at their lowest in September, they usually put out some great deals to try and fill the rooms. I can almost guarantee that we're going to see "Do you think there will be more people because they're offering such a great package deal?" in about July/August. You remember the free dining? That was for fall travel. Do you remember the 7 nights for the price of 4 deal? That was also for fall travel.

Cons
  • Weather. It's hot, it's humid, and it's peak hurricane season. BUT, it's no hotter than it would be mid-summer. AND - if a hurricane does blow through, there's no safer place to be than Walt Disney World. Their power grid is underground, so they don't lose power. The non-existent crowds become even less because so many people have cancelled. We honeymooned during September of 2004, and I can't tell you how many people there WEREN'T. We went on the tail of Ivan (it had been projected to ht Orlando, but it blew north west and hit the panhandle instead) - and we scored an Illuminations cruise for our arrival night the NIGHT before we left.
  • Low crowds = REFURBS! You stand a good chance on missing out a few E-Ticket rides. It makes sense to close them when there's the fewest people.

The pros far outweigh the cons for us.

You know how SICK I am? When I found out our baby would be born in September, I thought "That's AWESOME! We can do birthday trips when there's no crowds!!!!!!" ;)

We went last year from 9/25- 9/30 and had a spectacular time. It was quite humid though, the only problem we had. Crowd level was very low and wait times were low as well. It was still warm enough at nite for the boys to swim. We were going again this September but I switched our trip to xmas time- first ever, so excited......................

Our first trip to Disney was offsite during Christmas. Never again. The crowds were horrible.

We went last year after Labor Day and it was great. Easy to get on rides and the waits weren't too long in the afternoon. Weather was hot and humid. The DDs are off for their first break on September 8. We'll be in WDW on the 9th for a week. Would be longer but the wife and I don't have the vacation time.
