My husband and I just completed a trip to DLR and were surprised that they require people who carry no bags to go through security. At DW that's not the case. Does anyone know why? It really serves no purpose and was rather frustrating.

The sometimes will open a line for people without bags but it totally depends on the people and how well they are staffed, how long the line is and so on.

They still have to have someone checking to see that you don't have bags, so to them it is just the same to have all the lines checked.

I can't say it bothers me, with a 4 yr. old, I always have a bag, but I have seen a lot of people frustrated.

I guess we all need a little patience.

I never thought about that. People without bags stand in line but then just walk through. They don't have to stop and turn out pockets or anything. I can see how it would be nice to have a line just for no bags.

im a local an so sometimes i will leave my purse in the car, take my id, car key, 2 credit cards and passlanyard and clip the keys to my lanyard, and put all my plastics(id etc) in my pass holder.. and then i dont need my purse.. as my phone can go in my pocket.. well and sometimes i have waited a few minutes to get through the line but i just suck it up and wait.. i mean you know it's security and i am glad they check every bag!

I read somewhere that bag check is not only for your bags. It gives security an opportunity where people are slowed down to observe and screen them as well.

It would be nice to have a "no bag" line.

When we were there a couple of weeks ago, I stopped to let them look in my purse and I told my kids (no bags) to just walk through. A VERY testy screener lady said "No! Do not tell them to do that! We must look everyone in the face as they walk through the line individually!"

I thought that was so strange, and the lady was incredibly rude about it. I just shrugged and said, "Sorry, I didn't know" and let her look at my kids

The bag check annoys me to no end when I get an obsessed worker.

I had a tiny little backpack. It's really small, but of course they have to look in it. No issue there.

What I love, is they also unzipped one time this tiny little 1 inch compartment of the bag, and then there was this tiny little wallet made inside the bag, they opened that up too. It's just hilarious. A man could have 5x as much in his pant pockets than my total backpack.

Want some sensible bag checks? Try Disneyland Paris? One of the few things I liked there, efficient bag checks without the silliness. Furthermore, if you stay at Disneyland Hotel there, you somehow manage to avoid the bag check unless you go out into the Disney Village.

90 percent of the time the bag check does not bother me. It's just when they want to look in those miniature compartments that I find it over the top.

You would be surprized what kind of mouse gun can be put in those compartmens along with auto knives, etc. As I have stated in these numerous security posts, what a joke. I do not think Disney wants to give folks that DLR is not safe. You can go to magic mountain for that. Their checking for chicken buckets, alcohol and dope.

It sounds like that might have been the exit - they have CM's standing there too. That might explain why they were so forceful about saying get into line.

I know they also check to see if you meet the dress code at the bag check too. One older teen was wearing tiny cut off shorts and a string bikini top and was told put on a shirt over it. She was very put out. But at least we know she wasn't smuggling anything in.

Our experience at DLR was that we did hear them calling those with no bags over to one side to go through a single line, but it was right at opening.

As far as the whole experience goes, I would love consistancy. I don't mind them going through every nook and cranny. But I've had screeners who run the spectrum - some just barely look in my bag, some just look at the bottom of the stroller, while still others go through everything and have me take everything out of the bottom of the stroller. I'm always compliant, but it would be nice to know what to expect each time. Even though I don't mind a more thorough screener, I will admit it's frustrating when you get in the line with one, while everyone around you is zooming through with the less thorough one. Even when factoring in for individual differences, there just seems to be no one screening standard.
