Going bagless for Universal?

this is our 1st family trip to UO and I understand that it better/easier to be bagless so that you don't have to use the lockers.
As a wdw family we normally each carry a camelback with our water and misc stuff, snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc.
so how do you guys go bagless?

Lots of people use lanyards or cargo shorts with zippers or a waist bag with a 3 prong clasp.

I think some people just wear pants with a lot of pockets. I couldn't do it, I don't think. I can't do theme park without sunscreen, hand sanitizer, my phone, a couple band aids and neosporin, and ponchos if the forecast calls for rain. If it were just DH and me, I think we could get away without it all but as "mom" I kind of have to be prepared.

We stay onsite and go back to the resort mid-day so we don't lug any of that stuff around. Cards and money go in lanyard or cargo short pockets or my kipling waistpack..My DD is 12 yrs old and I don't really need to carry any of the stuff I used to when she was little

The problem is that for Dragon Challenge they use a metal detector wand so you cant get away with hing your phone in your pocket...but having to use a locker for that one ride isn't too bad.

I bring a bag every time and use the lockers. In my experience it has been a minor inconvenience at worst. It hasn't caused me to stop bringing one yet anyway, if that gives you an idea. Sure the locker areas can get crowded and hectic but it's nothing to stress over.

You still have to use your lockers for select rides such as The Dragon Challenge (at Islands of Adventures) and Rip It Rocket (at Universal Studios), as they use metal detectors like DisneyTravelers said.

Due to an accident on The Dragon Challenge, anything with coasters going upside down and what not, they have it so you have to literally empty your pockets and anything on you and put it into a locker before going on the ride due to safety reasons. My suggestion is depending on what park you go first, go on that ride first if it's something you want to do, because while the wait times may appear low (for example, lately The Dragon Challenge's wait time is usually 10 minutes), the real wait time and hassle will be trying to get in line to get a locker for your belongings. During our last trip, during one day we didn't know this (like I said "10 minute" wait)and when we went back to the lockers was a massive crowd around the locker area, so we decided the next day we'd get it first thing in the morning, and had no problems.

We never go bagless. I have prescription sunglasses and glasses and need to switch them out for rides. We also have the refillable drink bottles which we carry around. So no matter what we would need a locker.

Using the lockers really is a non issue for us. It takes all of about a minute or two.

We always stay onsite and go bagless. We're never more than 10 mins from our room no need for bags!!

We also are generally there for extended stays (11 days last time), so we aren't in the parks open to close. We usually are never there for more than 4 hours at a time.

We were at US/IOA recently and my wife had her purse with her. As other's have stated, at most it was a minor inconvenience and we used it pretty much at every ride that had lockers. Takes all of a minute or two to put it in and take it out afterwards.

Can't say going bagless would be worth while as you would still need to use the lockers for your phone and other loose stuff. It's worth it to be able to carry the stuff you want the rest of the day to deal with locker for a few minutes. I wouldn't want to be a sherpa and carry a million things no matter what but a small purse with the bare essentials is just handy.

I am planning my first visit to Universal in 2 weeks. Can someone please clarify these ride rules for me?
i.e. How many and which rides do not let you have anything in your pockets? Is a phone or wallet ok in a zipped or buttoned pocket?

If it goes upside down, nothing allowed at all. Pockets empty, metal detectors in the line. You'll get sent back to the lockers if you have anything. It's not worth it. I was surprised by how many people got sent back to the lockers.

There are several rides that have signs that say you must put all loose articles in lockers. However, The Dragon Challenge and Rip It Rocket are the only rides that will actually stop you and make you go through metal detectors before going on the ride and will stop you if you have anything on you.

And no, a simple phone, or wallet in a zipped, or buttoned pocket is not considered okay unfortunately. No matter how secure it is. Everything must be off of you and into a locker. You will be sent back to the lockers if you have any items on you. However, they're free for the duration of your ride.

I bought a small fanny pack (with a 3 prong clasp) in which to keep my sunglasses, cell phone, and money. I should be okay to wear that on all rides except RRR and Dragon Challenge, right? Trying to avoid locker rental when possible!

Hulk too if you are going after it reopens. The rest should be fine with what you said unless something has changed since December.

We've always just shoved stuff in our pockets, but we haven't been since they got metal detectors. If it's just Dragon Challenge and RRR (we don't do Hulk) then I think it's still a good idea. All we bring are our wallets and phones.
