Going back to work sucks

After being off for 11 days I am back to work today. And I must say - It sucks! I am tired. I have a gazillion emails to wade through. I forgot my password to one of our databases so I am not able to do much until they reset it.

Ahhhh....2 weeks until a 3 day weekend!

I only had four days off and going back to work sucked! Thankfully I am on vacation next week. Now if it would just warm up a bit in Orlando!

I had 16 days off and, sadly, it was not enough--part of it is that my first day back is a 12 hour day. I am also just holding on until the 3 day weekend!

I totally need to win the lottery.

Good news for this year is I get to telecommute from home on Fridays.

I love my job (usually) and if I have too much time off I get ancy and just need to work. Of course that doesn't mean I don't like vacation but I am usually ready to get back to work by the end of it. Even on my 13th day in Italy in 2008 I was just about ready to get back to the normalcy of life and get back to work.

Count your blessings that you are able to take 11 days off and go back to work. There are a lot of unemployed people who would love to be in your situation right now. Hang in there and remember it could always be worse.

Of course it could always be worse and others have worse problems. However, to me, coming back to work after such a break kinda sucks!

DD, DBF and I spent a wonderful almost 2 weeks doing a whole lot of nothing. I'll miss it.

Telecommuting form home is awesome. I am doing it two to three days a week and I love it. Sleep late to save the drive time, take a shower, put pajamas back on, go downstairs to office and turn on computer. Nothing like it if I have to work. I'm sitting here now in comfy clothes with my cat laying on my desk, hard at work (mostly!)

We don't get it off. So not everybody on the coasts has it off.

And OP, I get it. I've been off since Dec. 22nd myself. I like my job & I'm happy to be back, but I would really prefer to be able to work from home so I don't have to be out in the cold today. Or even better, to not have to work at all.

We celebrate it here in the Chicago area. Bank, post office and school holiday. I am lucky and get off work.

I feel your pain OP. I have been off since Dec 18th and since it was so cold this morning, it was very hard getting motivated to crawl out of bed. We might even get some snow which is really bad because ANY amount of snow down here shuts EVERYTHING down. I really don't want to have a make-up day already!!

Of course it has not snowed since January 2001 so I guess we are about due for some.

I wish we had this cold weather last week so it would not be so bad today. No kids today though...they don't come back until tomorrow. Once I got there it was not too bad. I worked in my office all day and cleaned and organized a bunch of stuff that I have been putting off for a LONG time. Never seems to be enough time in the day for things like that...always paperwork or trucks to check in, orders to be made.... etc.

I am glad I have a job though even though now January has gotten here I am sure we will have more furlough days to deal with.

Yep...we get MLK off too. It is really kind of silly since we had so much time off for Christmas but that's the Government for ya!

It is a Federal Holiday and I believe all of them recognize it but all states don't make all holidays "bank holidays" where everything closes. Some close for the day and some don't. The same goes for Veterans Day, Columbus Day, Presidents Day, and probably some others I don't remember. In some states and industries all are off, some none, some a mix.

From what I can find about 1/3 of businesses close for the day.

Exactly. Federal & state government offices are usually closed on those dates, banks too. But individual companies set their paid holidays, so some people may have to work on those days (like me, I work MLK Day, Columbus Day, but I have off on Presidents Day, 4th of July....)
