I'm a stay at home mom these days but I'm considering taking online university classes to complete my bachelor's degree in business management. I'm wondering how to go about getting financial aid while in school, since I know there are programs out there to help women getting an education but don't really know how to go about finding them! My family owns a small business, so if there are incentives for small businesses to having employees get further education, that would be really helpful, too.

After filling out the FAFSA, where do I start?

What ever college you are going to go start there, They will give tons of info. I think FAFSA have to be in July for the fall.

I think that the incentive is for the business to want more educated employees, and the business itself will provide a certain amount of money per year for their employees for tuition. I don't know if that is deductible for the business or not. My job reimburses me for a set amount of money per year for college tuition, but books and fees are completely OOP.

Did you search online for scholarship information? There may be specific scholarships available that you can apply for.

I filed the FAFSA yesterday, and the website says the deadline is June 30, 2010 for the school year 2009-2010.

I would talk to the financial aid office at the schools you are applying to. They should want to help you be able to afford classes. One of my very good friends is a finanacial aid director for an on-line university, and she does her very best to find a way for the students to be able to afford classes. I would say if the school you are interested in doesn't have a helpful and active financial aid department, you probably don't want to enroll there. Just ask a lot of questions to the financial aid office and they should be able to help you.

Oh, duh! Maybe I'm not cut out for a college education after all! All I saw was the June 30 part (and rushed to get everything assembled and submitted before the end of the day)!

Thanks for the correction!

I have an appointment next week to speak with the financial aid person, and hopefully that will help. I was just hoping to find something I could start filling out in the meantime! :)

Which university does your friend work with, lspst8?
