Going abroad at Christmas.....

Hi guys! Hope your all well!

Im just looking for peoples experiences and knowledge on what its like going abroad for Christmas!

There is a family of 11 of us (inlcuding grandparents & cousins) looking at going to Tenerife for a week and spending Christmas day on the beach, but there are a couple of family members unsure on the idea!

Has anyone on the boards been away and spent Christmas day on the beach?

One of the other reasons is cause we have a large family, it would save my mum/nan the hassle of cooking a full meal and then doing a buffet at night!

I have lived abroad for the last 6 years and only been at home in UK for one of the 6 Christmases. Would have to say I love being abroad at Christmas time BUT I do miss my family. You will have family with you so I think you will have a great time and won't have to worry about anyone getting stuck in the snow.

It is tradition for us to have Bucks Fizz by the pool on Christmas morning with carols in the background. Swimming cossies and Santa hats a must.

Its been almost 10 years since I spent christmas in Tenerife I was with my family it was something different to do as far as I can remember everything was opened we spent our day at the beach and then dinner in Mcdonalds We had a great time.

I would love to spend Christmas abroad unfortunately i'm working Christmas this year & next

I really want to do something different as Christmas has become boring to be honest & more like any other day.

The past 2 christmas' I have done the cooking to give my mum a break though.

I think it depends on how into a traditional Christmas you are. We've been to Tenerife for Christmas many times and it really isn't like Christmas at home at all, but if you are with family you will have a great time nevertheless. The weather can be fantastic, however my parents were over there this Christmas and the weather was quite poor, though lovely again over new year. That probably doesn't help much!

I've had 4 Christmases in the Canaries, just me and my parents so quite different to a family of 11, but it wasn't very Christmassy, the weather can also vary quite a lot so it might not be that warm, it is great to say you've been swimming on Christmas Day though. The way I look at is that Christmas happens every year so if you go and decide its not for you, you have a nice holiday and Christmas will be here again before you know it to have a traditional UK on.

We went for Dubai last Christmas and loved it so much that we are hoping to do the same again this year.

I have spent Christmas on the beach at Typhoon Lagoon does that count?

We went several yrs ago when my boys were younger and had a great time. As a mum it meant I had no cooking to do on Christmas day but also no preparation and shopping etc in the weeks leading up to christmas either.

We enjoyed it so much we did it again the following yr but as it was cooler we couldnt spend the day on the 'beach'

After 2 yrs away though I was then ready for a traditional Christmas again

I would say go for it

I have all but managed to talk the couple that werent so sure into it being a good idea! (I dropped the old guilt trip of 'it would mean mum had no cooking')

I just hope its bloooomin sunny when we get there!!
