What restrictions are there for the use of GoPro cameras in the theme parks, and specifically the water parks? Can they go on roller coasters or water slides?

TIA!!

The biggest one is no selfie sticks. They aren't even allowed in the parks.

As they don't have flashes, I think you wouldn't have a problem on most rides. Are you planning on wearing it with some type of harness or headgear? Or just handheld?

My daughter is thinking about getting one for our trip. She would probably do some combination of helmet, harness, and handheld.

I think some rides have no video taping rules. I believe Star Tours is one. Maybe Soarin? Not really sure. Wonder if there is a list somewhere?
At any rate, you can use it on any place that doesn't have a no video taping rule. We have never had problems with ours. We do have a grip and they always examine closely to make sure it doesn't extend. DH now just puts it in his cargo short pocket just to avoid the delay at bag check.

Someone had one with a wrist strap on Splash and I remember a man with one strapped to his forehead on a ride. No problem. Going through security at HS the guy in front of me had a pole for one that was maybe 18 inches or so. The security person asked if it extended and he said no. She called over the supervisor who looked at it with the man and let it through.

There are some films and rides with no photography but they will warn you when it's not ok to video tape. (and listen close, they will list what is not allowed and if you don't hear video taping, it's ok).

My daugther just used a gopro in sept (after the selfie ban) and she had a "the handler". It's a floating handle with a strap. They questioned it a few times but always allowed it in. It's really comfortable to hold while having your hand on any handles or things for the rides and the wrist strap ensured if it came out of your hand it stayed attached to your wrist.

Think the only issue at the waterparks may be metal on the slides. No idea if a harness would be allowed. We've used them in the Lazy rivers in the water case.

And just to add to this...I know you didn't ask about Universal, but just in case....they are way more strict about videotaping and I got yelled at (literally) for doing so on the Hogwarts Express. It's pretty noisy when you board most of this stuff, and I evidently missed to announcement forbidding it. Oops.
