I do not want to buy anything from anyone and I do not want to take any stinking surveys!!!!!

Our neighborhood has a big sign at the front that says "restricted neighborhood NO SOLICITING", yet almost every day there is someone ringing the doorbell trying to sell us something, wanting us to take a survey, or someone from a church trying to lead us to God.

My husband works third shift and whenever someone shows up on the front porch my two dogs viciously attack the door for 30 minutes, barking, biting at it, even after the people leave.

I went out to get the mail a few minutes ago and I saw a woman walking around with a clipboard asking my neighbor something. I knew she was going to stop by. I wish I would have just put a piece of paper ont he door that said "GO AWAY!"

Now I can expect DH to be in a terrible mood for the rest of the day.

you could keep a guitar by the door and say "Yeah! I'd love to fill out your survey, but listen to my song first." Then sing and play away until they run from your front step.

And what makes you think I'm THAT bad??? :worried:

Well, if you're trying to get rid of them you wouldn't sing your best, would you?;)

In high school I had a friends whose father worked nights. They had a sign on the front door the father put up before going to bed that said something like:

" CAUTION Day Sleeper - DO NOT knock or ring bell unless you want an EXTREMELY irritable 6 foot tall man to come to the door. I will buy nothing from you but will tell you where to stick it "

No one EVER bothered them.

So I guess this wouldn't be the time to ask you if you would like to take my survey? :confused3

So Ash, did you want to buy any of DD's girl scout cookies? I can deliver them to your house. . . :teeth:

I love the idea of the Day Sleeper sign. Perhaps a big circle with a line through it with a photo of someone standing at your door with a clipboard and BEWARE OF DAY SLEEPER on it.

Or Ring at your Own Risk. Cranky Day Sleeper with 2 vicious dogs.

I admit it - I am one of those horrible people that go door to door. I don't knock - I leave a little flyer on the doorknob, but my presence is enough to set many dogs to barking and yapping very loudly

The company I work for does model furniture auctions, and a few days before the sale, to put a note on the door inviting them to the sale. I don't leave them on any doors that say "no soliciting" though. This has led to some upset people, who show up after the auction is over and wonder why they didn't know about it - to which I have to say "well, the sign on your door said you didn't want any solicitations!".

If I see a sign on anyone's door, I don't even risk getting close enough to read it (I have been screamed at before), I just skip that house. Sorry there are others less considerate.

You can put all kinds of signs up, but most of these people are so arrogant they don't think you mean THEM! You might try taping off a 2' x 2' section of your porch or sidewalk, then when you answer the door ask the solicitor to stand in the box, look up the street, down the street, then directly into their eyes. When they ask why they're standing in the box you simply tell them it's the "kill zone" and start counting backwards from ten.

Being a gated community we have very little of that, but the telemarketers are a major pain. Nothing seems to get your number off their lists and blocking is far from 100%. I just might start having weird conversations with them for as long as I can so at least it will delay them calling the next person on their list. If we all did that we might finally get off their lists.
