This one is actually sort of funny. My bank sent my car payment to the Baltimore, MD address, which is the address of the payment books. Without warning, to GMAC or ME, the payment in Md. was closed. Mail arriving in Md then needed to be forwarded to Phoenix, AZ. Because I had "issues" with a transposed account number in the past, I called to see if my check was credited, which is how I "accidentally" came upon this information. They explained the situation and asked if I wanted a new payment book with the correct address. I said yes. What arrived was an envelope of payment envelopes with the WINDOW through which the correct address on the payment coupons is supposed to show; no coupons. At this point it doesn't really matter, because I put the correct address in my bill payment system with my bank. I was assured when I called that I would not be assessed a late fee charge since it was not my fault. Yesterday, I get a late notice from GMAC. I called because I am "not late", they are disorganized. I was told that there was no late fee assessed and they concurred that they did receive my payment on 10/11. Now is it unreasonable to assume that the same person who input the late fee waiver, when they knew the payment would be late due to the address change, could also stop the late payment letters? It doesn't seem that complicated!

Why not just do it all online?Nevermind, I see you are doing it online. I know that my bank does most on the online billpay to large companies (like GMAC) electronically, so no checks have to be sent--maybe you could look into that. My alst car loan was with GMAC and they sent the payment electronically.

Yeah, I agree, that's too much of a headache. I don't think GMAC is really set up for mail in payments- they VERY heavily suggest you pay online or do the automatic payment withdrawals. With all the problems you have been having with them..yikes, I don't have the patience for that!!! I do an automatic payment withdrawal on 26th of the month, have been doing this for 2 years with no problems. If you are worried about them overdrafting your account, use a separate checking account you only keep enough for your car payment in. A lot of people do that! I am a risk taker myself. :rotfl:

What is amazing is that the first year, there were no issues at all. GMAC isn't set up for electronic transfers from a bank! My bank has to cut a paper check. But, they cut, it gets lost, they pay the stop payment fee. I just don't trust them to reach into my checking account and I don't want to have to deal with another account because I don't trust them. I guess the "heads up" is the letter demanding more money.
