I was just recently diagnosed with Hashimoto disease which means my doctor says I need to be 100%glutton free,. The problem is all of our dining reservations have already been made. Do I mention it to our cast member/server when we are seated? Do I call on all my reservations? Not sure what to do. Thank you for your help!

I'm sorry for your diagnosis. Disney is great at handling food allergies. I would go ahead and call to have it noted, but you should ask to talk to the chef or manager at each place when you are seated. My son has severe food allergies, and this is how we have handled it at Disney.

FYI - You might get better specific information by posting this on the DISabilities board.

I found out I'm gluten intolerant 3 years ago and Disney has been the safest palce (outside my own kitchen!) of anywhere else! They are great at handling allergies consistently throughout Disney.
Marking it on the reservation just lets the restaurant know ahead of time but all you need to do is tell your server you have a gluten allergy and they will get you an allergen menu. One thing I've learned is to look at both the regular menu and the gluten free menu. My understanding is that items only come up on the allergy friendly menu if they're suitable for multiple allergies and if your only problem is gluten there are often items on the regular menu but not on the allergy menu that are still safe for you (or safe with a minor modification).
When I was there in Disney I noticed across the board that all the servers had a line they would say asking if I was comfortable ordering off the allergy menu or if I would like to speak to a chef. Only at buffet places like Boma did the chef automatically come out. My advice is that if you're worried ask to speak to the chef but they really do have it covered most of the time (it will make your food take longer speaking to a chef but if it will make you more comfortable go for it!).
Most sit down places will automatically bring you gluten free bread with your own portion of whatever butter or spread they serve. The bread is usually the same roll, when heated correctly it's great but otherwise it can kind of be a brick lol. If you want more food reviews & suggestions, I just started a gluten free Disney blog, link is in my signature. :)

Last thought: don't forget, Mickey Bars are gluten free! :D If you have any questions send me a DM and I'd be happy to help! :)

I have Celiac. And the absolute best place to vacation is at Disney.

I would call and add "gluten/wheat free" to all of your ADRs.

When you are seated, they should mention it. And offer you a gluten free menu. You also have the option to speak with the Chef.

Note: we're all operating under the assumption that you are on a gluten free diet, not a glutton free diet, which would be a whole 'nuther thang.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought this. Glutton free at Disney... that would defeat the point of going!

not really asked but many of the glutton free deserts taste better than the glutton versions. Don't forget to let anywhere you dine know your glutten free. There is a lot of alternatives that may not be on the menu and there is the newer allergy menus to help you navigate what you should avoid. This includes quick service.

LOL yes gluten free. Where's spell check when you need it? LOL

Thank you all! I am calling Disney dining tomorrow and adding the gluten free to my ADR's.

My son is on a required gluten-free diet & that's also one of the main reasons I take him to Disney more than anywhere else. I know eating will always be okay! At other destinations, getting gluten-free food can be a challenge, but not at Disney.

Something that came highly recommended/worth making a special trip over for was the gluten-free benigets at Port Orleans French Quarter. I was a beniget fan before having to change my diet but they're not something you really find in surburan Michigan, and are beyond my kitchen skills, so I was really excited to try them. Oh my gosh, sooo good! If fried dough sounds remotely good to you, try them!

this sounds wonderful! Do you have to call ahead to order it?

I've never seen gluten free fried bread.

But no, you do not have to pre-order the benigets. As far as I know, the only thing that needs ordered ahead of time is the fried chicken.

I'm also gluten free & eating at Disney restaurants is easy breezy. Like others have said, note it on your reservations & if you visit a buffet ask to speak with a chef. They will take great care of you! I've even had them make me gluten free waffles, french toast, & pancakes at the breakfast buffets. Most places will have gluten free sandwich buns, breads, even desserts! I believe you'll find it refreshing how easy they will make it for you to dine.

Thank you all for your answers! I just got back from the drs office and they said the numbers a little better but I absolutely have to let Disney know that I have to be gluten free. So I called and they added it to all the ADR's. I am feeling better about it after reading your post. Believe it or not I was really looking forward to a waffle and now I see I can have one. thanks again!

Call…. They are great about people with different food allergies. I have to do gluten free and have been pleased as punch with all of the great selections that are offered.

Yes I did call and of course Disney was extremely kind on the phone I was bummed when I was diagnosed about being living gluten free. Our trip was planned and everything was scheduled months ago. This is our first trip in many years. DH and I love the nice resturants and great food at Disney! I guess I was feeling sorry for myself because who eats gluten free at Disney? Well all these answers have been a HUGE help and they have certainly made me feel better! We will be at Disney in less than two weeks and WE CANT WAIT!!!! again thank you all!
