i've been going to disney for 21 years and i recently was diagnosed with celiacs disease. can someone share some info and locations for some gluten free goodies. i would totally appreicate a heads up before heading down

If you do table service dinners, tell the CM when you make your ADRs. The chef will speak to you when you're seated for dinner and help you out.

Write to brenda.bennett@disney.com for additional info (including foods available at other venues).

I am allergic to wheat and when my husband and I went in December last year I found that table services were easier to accommodate an allergy rather than counter service. Counter service does accomodate special dietary needs though don't misunderstand that. I just ended up encountering very few who understood or knew how to accomodate my special dietary needs. :confused3 It became too much of a hassle and we resorted to table service and were pleasantly surprised at the one on one attention and service from the chefs.:goodvibes

Let me know how the food is! We are going down in August and 2 of our daughters have celiac disease. Brenda (from the other post) emailed me lists of food at TS, CS, and snack locations. have fun!

All of the counter service locations have special breads and/or rolls that are glutten free. Just let the cashier know whenyou place the order.

Have it noted on all ADRs and remind them when you check in at the podium. Usually a chef will come to your table and work with you for any special needs. If it is a buffet usually the chef will walk the line with you to let you know what is safe.

If it is a severe allergy they will often cook up a special dish (which may or may not be on the buffet) to minimize cross-contamination.

If you go to the disABILITIES Forum this is a common topic of discussion.

I'm gluten intolerant, I hate to say I have Celiacs because I haven't done the biopsy and because I can tolerate small amounts - bread sends me into gastrointestial distress, but if a cruton touches my salad or the soup was thickened with a little flour, I can handle it.

For me, its realitively easy because I simply don't order anything that is obviously gluten loaded - nothing breaded (no fish and chips, fried chicken or onion rings), but I can easily eat most options. If I slip and have a little too much, it just means cramps, bloating, gas and a few more trips to the bathroom for eight-ten hours. I don't feel the need to burden the chef with ingrediants (and I HATE gluten free bread anyway - I'd rather just not have bread).

Counter service IS harder - because its so often "something on a bun" - know your menus and don't be afraid to resort to a salad. Table service is easy, have them hold the rolls, don't order anything breaded, don't order soup if you are touchy, and you get lots of creme brulee as dessert.

I have been going for the last 5 years with Celiac. It is a dream for us, they now sell gluten free brownies, and rice Krispy treats at main street bakery. They also had them at the food and fun center at the Contemporary. The popcorn is good, turkey legs, dole whips. Some of the ice cream (if it has any kind of cookie or wheat in it than of course no). If you write Brenda she will give you a list of park foods. You will be amazed at what you can eat. When you make your ADR's tell them you need gluten free. A chef will come out and talk to you. I love Liberty Tree Tavern, they even make gluten free gravy. They have just gotten Amy's mac and cheese. I have had gluten free waffles (O'Hana) gluten free pancakes (1900 Park Fare). You will not go hungry. Even got a Cobb salad at Hollywood Brown Derby and the best dinner rolls I have ever had. Some Chef's will make you a flourless choclate brownie, other's Creme brulee. Sometimes you get fruit, it just depends on the Chef. I have had great success, to the point that I hardly knew I had anything wrong with me. Make sure you e-mail Brenda for an updated list, the items I have mentioned to you have been safe for awhile, but you want to be sure. She also found out that the Caramel apples were gluten free ( the one's at MK). But again, please verify it with her, they do change vendors from time to time. Happy Eating!:)
