Hi everyone,

I am traveling to Disney and am a celiac. I know they are very accomodating but I also have a dairy allergy and am a vegan. I have a list of restaurants that I think might be good, but am wondering if anyone has any input.

Thanks kindly!

Check the DISAbilities board for contact information regarding Disney Special Diets.

Thanks, I have, I also was curious if anyone had any first hand reviews here.

There are several great reviews in the 'dining review' section. Just search under 'vegan'! You'll find some great info and reviews!!! I leave tomorrow so my reviews are coming soon. :cool1:

Sounds great! I read through ALL of the vegan reviews (well, loads of them!), but was wondering how the combination of gluten-free AND vegan is. I look forward to your reviews.

Thanks, minniebride. The problem with the majority of just gluten-free reviews is nothing is ever vegan. Usually quite meat-centric!

my daughter was gluten free & vegan for 1 trip in summer '09 (she's still a vegan but the celiac was a misdiagnosis)

pretty much every table service place was able to handle it, here's a list of what I remember:
Sanaa- spicy baked cauliflower appetizer, a curry, daal and rice entree, and fruit and coconut for dessert
The Wave- a citrus-y salad, the vegetable stew without the mixed grains, and sorbet
The Brown Derby- we were there for the imagineer lunch, so it was four courses, gazpacho for the soup, cobb salad without the meat, cheese, etc., a tofu dish with vegetables and cashews (maybe curry?), and sorbet and berries for dessert
Cape May Cafe- we were there for the breakfast buffet. they made gluten free vegan mickey waffles and breakfast potatoes and grilled asparagus
Hollywood and Vine- we were there for the breakfast buffet, they cooked some waffles, I'm pretty sure they were van's brand and they also made breakfast potatoes with peppers and mushrooms
Tusker House- we were there for the breakfast buffet, they had a few things on the buffet that were gluten free & vegan (a mango coconut fruit salad and breakfast potatoes (they can also get them separately from the back if you are worried about cross contamination)) they also made mickey waffles, a tofu scramble, and tater tots.
Chef Mickey's- this one was rather disappointing. we were there for dinner. they made a noodle dish with vegetables that was totally bland and tasteless. they did make some good cinnamon cookies, but they were extremely crumbly.
Restaurant Marrakesh also disappointing. they just had some grilled vegetables & rice, and for dessert, a fruit salad that looked like it came out of a can.
Garden View Lounge (Afternoon Tea) she had the buckingham palace package which we worked with the chef to modify a bit: pb&j tea sandwiches, fruit salad, and strawberries.

As for counter service, I'm not sure if the veggie burgers are gluten free because they have switched brands since that trip. I know that pretty much anywhere there is pizza they will have gluten-free crusts, and some places will have gluten free vegan soy cheese, but if they don't, you can get a pizza with just veggies. I also recommend Sunshine Seasons in The Land, because they have tons of options there. We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside that trip and their food court was wonderful. They were able to make gluten free mickey waffles for breakfast, and for lunch and dinner, they had gluten free pasta at the pasta station, gluten free crusts at the pizza station and they could customize a salad at the salad station.

Sorry for any illegibility, I was just about to go to bed when I saw this post, but i just had to answer! I might have some pictures, I'll dig through my computer tomorrow and see if i can post some. Also, if you have any questions, just let me know! :)

BabyBun, that's awesome! That is exactly what I was looking for when I was posted here.

How was it at Quick Service? Was there at least ONE thing she could have often?

I have some of those names already saved on my list of ones to reserve for (I am making the requests on Monday). I hadn't had the Tusker House for breakfast but maybe I will add it on there. I had Chef Mickey's but maybe I will take it off.

I am trying to narrow down my restaurants so I am glad that a bunch of yours are on my list! And the disappointments aren't (other than Chef Mickey's).

What resort did you stay at ? Did you eat there a lot?

I am a GF vegetarian and I just recently returned from WDW (2 days ago). I was travelling and dining with quite a few vegetarians, and on e vegetarian with a dairy alergy. Very often I believe my meals were GF and vegan. I think that WDW has some standard allergen free meals which are GF and Dairy Free at the same time. For example, for the two breakfasts I went to (at Kona and Kouzzina) both chefs told me that they have a GF/DF pancake/waffle mix that they use with rice milk to make the meal (both were great breakfasts, served with potatoes and fruits on the side). Also, at 1900 Park Fair, Chef TJ made me and my Dairy Allergy/ Veggie SIL the same dish (an awesome tofu/rice noodle/veggie dinner) and he made us individual desserts (one with tofutti or rice dream, one with ice cream, both with GF/DF brownies and fruit). Also, there were quite a few things we could eat off of the buffet. My dinner at Le Cellier and Marrakesh was both GF and DF. Also, the chef at O'Hana was able to make awesome GF and DF dinners which were vegetarian!

We did encounter a few restaurants who really didn't care to go the extra distance but most were great! You win some, you lose some.

We generally stuck with quick service places where we knew she could eat something, but I would say in general, yes, there was at least one option in most places.

We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside, and we ate in their food court a lot! We had breakfast there every day and we ate dinner there a few times. I don't really rememeber breakfast, but I know for dinner she was able to get a salad with a raspberry dressing and garbanzo beans once, a pasta with tomato sauce, veggies and olives, and a pizza with vegetables and a gluten free crust. We never ate at Boatwright's though, so I'm not sure how they would handle it.

@cheesekate - THANK you! Do you remember which ones were NOT accomodating?

@babybun - that is where we are staying, too! What a relief to hear. I am so excited.

My mom cannot have any of the top allergens (including gluten) but she can have meat and fish, so its easy for her, I'm sure, to have fresh vegetables and fresh meat or fish. She likes simple flavour so she is okay with that. She's okay with fruits and things like salads if quick service has that to offer.

For myself, these recommendations are great! You guys are very helpful, and I have a list of others I hvae read that sound like they will be good, too. Thank you so much.

I would not take a chance at Whispering Canyon Cafe again, although I have had a great meal there before. The chef made my daughter a GF meat meal and hers was fine. The chef said that he could just give me side dishes and then when it came to dessert the waiter literally threw down two wrapped prepackaged brownies for me and my daughter. On top of that, the side dishes must have been contaminated because I was pretty ill within two hours of dinner (that doesn't happen to me often). About the brownies - they turn up as part of desserts for many TS meals. However, they are often part of a sundae or they are jazzed up with some fruit!

Also, Biergarten usually gets good reviews for Gluten Free. We tried it. I was able to eat the potato dish and the tomato salad off of the buffet. There were a few things on the buffet that were also GF and veggie but they were visibly contaminated (macaroni salad in the beets etc). The chef was didn't offer anything else, did not provide any GF bread and there was vanilla pudding for dessert. He offered to make my daughter fresh salmon because his had gluten in the sauce but we waited 45 minutes and it didn't come out so we had to ask the waitress for it. I didn't expect much eating there, but I thought it would be better than that.
